The Scottish Premiership side parted company with player-manager Kenny Miller on Monday after only seven weeks in charge.

QUINN JOINS BURTON

Burton have signed former Hull and Reading midfielder Stephen Quinn.

The Republic of Ireland international, whose career in England began at Sheffield United, has signed a short-term deal until January after impressing on trial.

“I’m really happy to have signed – it’s all happened really quickly, actually,” Quinn told the club’s official website.

“I came down a few weeks ago and trained with the guys, and it’s gone really well. I’ve really enjoyed it.

“I finished at Reading at the end of last season and I just didn’t know where to go with it – I was frustrated at the lack of games I played at Reading due to injury.

“My body just needed the time off to heal. I had the time off over the summer to get the body right, and get that buzz and love for the game back again.

“I’ve come down here and certainly got that. I contacted the club to see if I could get fit and train, and I’ve done well enough in training that the manager sees something in me still, and he’s offered me the deal.”

VILLA COMPLETE EL GHAZI LOAN

Aston Villa have signed Lille winger Anwar El Ghazi on loan until the end of the season, the Sky Bet Championship club have announced.

The 23-year-old Netherlands international, who graduated from Ajax’s famous academy, played over 70 times for the Dutch club before moving to Lille in January 2017.

“I am thrilled to join a football club of the size of Aston Villa,” El Ghazi told the club’s official website.

“I visited Villa Park late last night after flying in from Holland and it gave me goosebumps.

“I can’t wait to get out there and experience it for real and play in front of such passionate fans.”

KLUIVERT RIGHT TO SNUB UNITED

Justin Kluivert made the right decision snubbing Manchester United in favour of a move to Roma, according to his father Patrick.

After two years at Ajax, the 19-year-old looked set to head to the Premier League but the winger opted to move to Italy instead.

"I think United would have been too big a jump," former Ajax, AC Milan and Barcelona striker Kluivert told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"Roma are an important club but the pressures are less. Roma don't have to win at any cost and it is a club that is used to good football. It is the ideal place for Justin right now."

Kluivert has signed a contract until 2023 in Rome and made an immediate impact with his cross setting up Edin Dzeko for the match winner in the opening Serie A game against Torino last weekend.

RONALDO: EASY DECISION TO LEAVE REAL

Cristiano Ronaldo says it was "an easy decision" to leave Real Madrid for Juventus.

Ronaldo left the Bernabeu after a glittering nine-year stint, in which he won four Champions League titles, moving to Turin for £105m.

The 33-year-old Portugal international spoke of his astonishment at the reception he received when being unveiled at the club's stadium, and has high hopes for Juventus' future.

"I never expected to play in this team, but some things happen naturally, for me it was an easy decision, what was done in Madrid is incredible, I won everything, my family lives there, but it's part of the past,” he told DAZN.

"The small details make the big difference at the end of the day so. I would say what I saw in the stadium helped. And, of course, when the people start to applaud me in the stadium I was like: 'Wow'.

"It surprised me a lot because this has never happened in my life, so it was an unbelievable moment."

FRED ON GILBERTO INFLUENCE

Fred has shed light on the role Arsenal legend Gilberto Silva played in helping him decide to join Manchester United this summer.

Gilberto has plenty of experience of Premier League football, having been part of Arsenal's Invincibles squad in 2003/04, and he represents his fellow Brazil midfielder.

Fred had interest from across Europe, notably Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, but opted to move to Old Trafford after leaving Shakhtar Donetsk.

Ahead of United’s clash with Tottenham on Monday Night Football, Fred told manutd.com: “Gilberto was a top midfielder who played for Arsenal. But he has a lot of respect for Manchester United, who are obviously a big club here in England.

"He praised the club a lot and, after he was granted the opportunity to speak to Jose Mourinho and other senior figures at United, we made the decision together for me to come here.

“We decided it would be a good move for me. Gilberto is a top guy and his advice means a lot to me.

"He played in the same position as I do and he won the Premier League, so I look to him for inspiration, I listen to what he has to say and I take on board what he tells me."

WELLS AS WELL?

Sky Sports News understands bottom-of-the-table QPR have also not given up on signing Burnley striker Nakhi Wells on loan.

The Bermuda international has made just 10 appearances, and scored no goals, for the Clarets since trading Huddersfield for Turf Moor in August 2017.

QPR CLOSE ON HEMED

Queens Park Rangers are closing on the signing of Brighton striker Tomer Hemed on a season-long loan, according to Sky sources.

The Israel international is not in Chris Hughton’s plans in the Premier League and talks are underway to allow him to move to Loftus Road.

Rangers boss Steve McClaren is in desperate need of experienced recruits as his young side have lost all their opening four games, scoring just twice and conceding 13 goals.

Hemed, 32, scored 30 goals in 73 Championship starts as he helped Brighton return to the top division in 2017 for the first time in 34 years.

VILLA CLOSE TO EL-GHAZI DEAL

We understand Aston Villa are closing in on the signing of Lille winger Anwar El-Ghazi – with a possible announcement due later today.

The 23-year-old, who started 19 Ligue 1 games last term, is considered surplus to requirements by the French club. Villa and Leeds have both been linked with a move for the player but it appears the former are set to win the race to sign him.

It has been suggested that a loan move will be agreed with a view to a permanent deal, potentially as early as January.

'KHEDIRA TO REJECT PSG'

Paris Saint-Germain have contacted Juventus over the availability of veteran midfielder Sami Khedira, according to Tuttosport.

However, the Italian champions expect the German international to sign a new contract.

Robert Lewandowski says he has no intention of leaving Bayern Munich this summer, but has explained why the thought might have crossed his mind.

Speaking to Bild, he said: "In April, May, almost everyone shot me. I felt no protection from the club. I felt alone. I scored no goals in two or three important games and suddenly everyone was thinking: ‘Free shots at Lewandowski!’

"I did not see anyone who was behind me at the time. Nobody was behind me, neither [Karl-Heinz Rummenigge or Uli Hoeness] defended me.

Anthony Martial reportedly plans to stay and fight for his Manchester United future.

There has been speculation this summer that the 22-year-old will be leaving Old Trafford.

However, The Sun say he will not push for a move before the European transfer deadline on August 31.

It is also reported that Martial has been "encouraged by United refusing to sell him this summer".

However, the Daily Star claim Jose Mourinho has asked executive vice chairman Ed Woodward to sell Martial to raise funds ahead of the January window.

Steve McClaren insists he is the right man for QPR after being jeered by home fans during a 3-0 defeat against Bristol City at Loftus Road.

Rangers have lost all four league games since McClaren took over as manager and are hampered by Financial Fair Play restrictions.

Cheltenham have "parted company" with manager Gary Johnson.

The League Two club announced the decision last night after a 1-1 draw at Macclesfield. Johnson had been in charge since March 2015.

"It is with great regret that the board of Cheltenham Town FC have this evening parted company with manager Gary Johnson," said the club in a statement.

"We would like to place on record our sincere thanks for the tireless work that Gary has done on behalf of the club, work that has left the club in a stronger position than when he took over."

Manchester City are reportedly considering an emergency loan move for Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas.

City's second-choice goalkeeper Claudio Bravo suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon in training on Monday.

According to AS, City are looking for a replacement and may target Navas, who has two years left on his contract but faces competition from summer signing Thibaut Courtois.

City's only current back-up is 20-year-old Daniel Grimshaw, but they can apply for an emergency loan.

NO OZIL WAGES FOR RAMSEY

Arsenal are keen to tie Aaron Ramseyto a new contract but will not give him the kind of wages that his teammate Mesut Ozil earns, report the Evening Standard.

Ramsey is seeking a significant increase on his current £110,000 weekly wage with Ozil earning £350,000 since signing his new contract last season.

The Welshman's contract expires at the end of the season and Chelsea, Manchester United and Lazio have all been linked with a move for him.
