California Lutheran University

California Lutheran University (CLU) sponsors 19 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III sports and is a member of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC).

Since the 1991-92 academic year when the entire CLU athletics program made the transition from National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division II to NCAA Division III status, Kingsmen (men's) and Regals (women's) teams have enjoyed tremendous success in virtually every sport. CLU has won 55 league championships (including an amazing ten straight in women's soccer) and teams have advanced to NCAA postseason play 49 times. In addition, several individuals have qualified for the NCAA Championships in cross country, tennis, and track and field.

On the national front, the 1971 Kingsmen football team won the NAIA national championship, and CLU has captured NCAA singles (1996) and doubles (1997) titles in men's tennis. The baseball team finished second in the country in NCAA play twice and the Regals' volleyball squad was the NCAA national runner-up in 1995.

The newest addition to CLU athletics was a complete aquatics program, including men's and women's swimming and diving and men's women's water polo, which began competing during the 2003-2004 academic year. In fact, Regal diver Ashleigh Poulin won the league championship in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events in the team's inaugural year!

CLU student-athletes perform well off the field and court as well, earning many school, conference, and national scholar-athlete awards.

CLU is currently building another major addition to its program, the North Campus Athletics Complex. When completed, the campus will boast what is sure to be one of the finest set of venues among all Division III schools with new stadiums, fields, track facilities, tennis courts, and a state-of-the-art sports and fitness center.
