Q: 20 years ago I borrowed a friends car rear ended another car.

I was searching for liens against me on the Courts record and State Farm had a lien placed on me 20 years ago. Does this drop off after a certain period of time?. I’ve never been taken to court on it and it doesn’t show on my credit reports

Q: My truck is up for forfeiture, how can I get it back?

I was arrested in an underage prostitution sting, they towed the truck I drove to the meeting away and will not release it back to me. They have told me they are looking at forfeiture, is there anything I can do?

Malcolm P. LaVergne
Malcolm P. LaVergne answered on Apr 21, 2020

It's complicated because it can be both a civil and criminal matter. There are recent Supreme Court cases on this issue. You need to retain a lawyer immediately to figure this out, or you will lose the truck by default.

Good question. Usually, a business partner can't change your ownership percentage in a partnership or company without your permission or unless you have given the partner some sort of right to do so. This is about negotiating, and you should consider extending the deadline to make sure you do not lose the property.

Make sure you have a modification to the contract to make sure they do not try to pull the rug.
