Q: If a company sends you a letter offering employment and you sign and accept is it legally binding?

The letter offers the position and the start date. I signed it and sent back to my HR department. Now they are pushing the start date back and saying first letter is not valid. In the letter there is no mention of changing hiring dates.

Rhiannon Herbert answered on Dec 1, 2020

Unfortunately, an offer letter is not a contract, meaning it is not legally binding. While it is inconvenient for you, your employer is permitted to push your start date back and issue a new letter with updated terms.

Q: Got a broken jaw, 22 months ago. Surgery was done poorly and now jaw is painful and does not work well. Could I sue?

I should have been transferred to different hospital, in Seattle. Waited a week for the surgery. Was later told surgery was done by an ear, nose, throat doc.

I saw an oral surgeon, who told me jaw was misaligned, and they could only fix it by breaking my jaw again.

Surgery was done... Read more »

Q: Can a screenshot of a show be used as an artistic template that is then sold as my art?

If I take a screenshot of a show, say Game of Thrones, and then draw over it in a photo editing software, is it against the law to sell the art? Copyright infringement or something else?

Allison Higgins
Allison Higgins answered on Nov 23, 2020

It depends on how similar your drawing is to the original photo. Merely tracing the photo in an animated format, as is the latest craze, is copyright infringement. The standard for copyright infringement is "substantial similarity" and this situation would likely fall under that.
