Funerals and memorial services

When a person dies it is fitting to pray both for them and for those who grieve as they are entrusted to Godâs merciful keeping. A Church of England funeral service enables this to be done with dignity, whatever the personal views of the individual who has died.

The Cathedral clergy are always willing (subject to availability) to take funeral services for people who have lived within the cathedral parish or who have a connection with the cathedral. Funerals can take place either in the cathedral itself, at St Johnâs Bondgate or at the crematorium.

To discuss the possibility of a funeral, please contact Victoria Richardson

Memorial services are traditionally held some months after the individualâs death. Such a service gives an opportunity, once the immediate shock and grief of the loss of a loved one has passed, to celebrate a personâs lifetimeâs achievements with a wider group of people who knew of them or worked with them, in the context of tributes, prayers and beautiful music to do them honour. If you would like to discuss organising a memorial service please contact Judith Bustard (contact details above) or speak to one of the clergy.
