The Wing and A Prayer installation of 10,000 angels was designed during the COVID-19 lockdown to support the community through prayer
Since May, 10,000 origami angels have been made by 100 volunteers and 300 school pupils, who have helped to create an inspiring host of angels in the nave of Ripon Cathedral. Each angel represents a dedication made during the COVID-19 pandemic to key workers and loved ones. Our volunteers range from 3 – 90 years old and are located across the region.
During July, over 50 volunteers and staff members suspended 10,000 angels from a net before it was raised 50 feet into the nave’s vaulted ceiling.
The free exhibition is available to view through to 2021 during our regular opening hours.
The Yorkshire Air Ambulance is an independent charity providing a life saving rapid response emergency service to 5 million people across the whole of Yorkshire. On average, The Yorkshire Air Ambulance attend five incidents each day, every single day. Supporting Angels on the Frontline
Helen Callear, Director of Fundraising (North and East) for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, said: “We are delighted to have been chosen as the charity partner for ‘A Wing and a Prayer’ at Ripon Cathedral.
 As members of our own crew are currently working on the frontline, this is a project very close to our charity’s heart and with event cancellations and fundraising activities on hold, the YAA need all the support we can get to keep our helicopters in the air and saving lives across the region.
