Guest Program

Luxembourg, as the base of the European Court of Justice, is considered the judicial capital of the European Union and therefore the perfect location for the first Max Planck Institute on legal research outside Germany.

With a focus on comparative and transnational legal research, the Institute is a place of lively exchanges between academia and practice. Its inspiring intellectual atmosphere is why scholars from all over the world come to Luxembourg to research and discuss current questions in procedural law.
The Institute’s Guest Program is open to scholars and practitioners from any country and provides the opportunity to come to Luxembourg for a short- or medium-term research stay.
As a guest you benefit from the Institute’s Center-piece – our extensive library. In addition to a personal workspace, you will receive professional support from our librarians with regard to the use of the library and its devices.
Our International Officer will be your contact person throughout your research stay and will take care of all of your questions.

Our research guests enjoy a fruitful exchange of ideas with other international colleagues as well as the Research Fellows of the Institute. The weekly department meetings and various discussion groups are excellent opportunities for this exchange.
Prerequisite for a research stay in our Institute is the submission of an application which has to include your CV, an outline of your research project, two recommendation letters (applications from professors are excepted from this requirement) and a list of publications.
Should you have any questions about your application for our Guest Program, please feel free to send an e-mail to: [email protected]
Covid-19 pandemic: Limited access to the Institute
