Patent number: 9178783
Abstract: Techniques for measuring network performance using the inter-packet gap metric are described. According to one approach, a computer-implemented method comprises a plurality of inter-packet gap buckets, along with their associated counts and inter-packet gap value ranges, being created and stored at a network node. Two or more network packets are received at a network node as a part of at least one unidirectional flow. For each successively received packet, the network node then determines the inter-packet gap value. Next, the network node compares the inter-packet gap value with the different discrete inter-packet gap value ranges that are associated with the stored inter-packet gap buckets. If the inter-packet gap value is included in an inter-packet gap value range associated with a particular inter-packet gap bucket then the that bucket is updated. The network node then exports the inter-packet gap metric data to a computer system.

Patent number: 9176233
Abstract: Systems, apparatus and methods in a mobile device to multiplex two global navigation satellite system (GNSS) signals on a single hardware receiver chain are presented. The GNSS signals may come from a common GNSS system on two bands of two different GNSS systems overlapping on a common band. A duty cycle of the GNSS signals may be based on a harmonic being within one of the first band and the second band. The duty cycle may be based on signal quality, such as indicating a jammed or non jammed signal. The duty cycle may be of unequal proportions and less than 100% such that the receiver chain is idle for a percentage of time.

Patent number: 9179477
Abstract: A method and system reduce interference between overlapping first and second wireless LAN cells in a medium. Each cell includes a respective plurality of member stations and there is at least one overlapped station occupying both cells. An inter-cell contention-free period value is assigned to a first access point station in the first cell, associated with an accessing order in the medium for member stations in the first and second cells. The access point transmits a beacon packet containing the inter-cell contention-free period value, which is intercepted at the overlapped station. The overlapped station forwards the inter-cell contention-free period value to member stations in the second cell. A second access point in the second cell can then delay transmissions by member stations in the second cell until after the inter-cell contention-free period expires.

Patent number: 9179380
Abstract: Systems and methods of performing a handover in a wireless communication network are provided. A controller node can receive a first request to establish a first logical communication link between a first access node and a gateway. The controller node can receive from a second access node a second request to establish a second logical communication link between the second access node and the gateway and to release the first logical communication link between the first access node and the gateway. A timer can be initiated after receiving the second request. The timer can be based on a mobility of the wireless device, a load of the wireless communication network, and an application requirement of an application running on the wireless device. The gateway can be instructed to establish the second logical communication link after initiating the timer and to release the first logical communication link after the timer expires.

Abstract: A method is performed in a network device for accepting or rejecting a request associated with a mobile device wirelessly connecting to a network. The method includes: receiving a request from a mobile device, wherein the request is associated with the mobile device wirelessly connecting to a network; and determining an expected connection duration for the mobile device, which is calculated using collected historical connection data that identifies a plurality of previous wireless connections to the network and identifies a corresponding duration of each previous wireless connection. The method further includes determining whether to accept or reject the request based on the expected connection duration for the mobile device.

Patent number: 9173189
Abstract: Determining whether a station is at the edge of wireless local area network (WLAN) coverage. In an IEEE 802.11 wireless network comprising one or more access points (APs) which may optionally be connected to one or more controllers, with wireless clients connected to those APs. Station S connected to AP A collects reports such as beacon reports which contains information on all APs station S can hear, including signal strengths. AP A collects a neighbor report which contains information on all APs in its neighborhood including signal strengths. These reports from A and S are observed and compared over time to determine when S is at or is moving to the edge of WLAN coverage. For example, if the only entry in the beacon list for client S is AP A to which it is connected, and the signal strength is decreasing over time, S is at the edge of WLAN coverage and is moving away from the WLAN. The process may be implemented at a controller, at a client, or both.

Patent number: 9173106
Abstract: To efficiently mitigate cell coverage disruptions caused by either unplanned equipment failures or planned outages during maintenance activities, an efficient cell site outage mitigation system is provided to calculate an optimal configuration for neighboring cell site devices before adjusting the cell site configuration settings to cover the coverage gap. The optimal configuration is determined using an offline model learner. Radio frequency propagation models and user demand and distribution models can be used to determine the offline solution. The optimal configuration setting learnt using an offline model is then implemented when an outage is determined to have occurred in the operational field.

Patent number: 9167453
Abstract: During scheduled or unscheduled wireless communication outage, restoration of crucial or critical cell site devices and/or base station device are prioritized. The system filters current key performance indicator values and historical key performance indicator values for a reference cell device to produce a filtered key performance indicator metric for the reference cell device, filters statistical data to produce filtered statistical data representing a filtered statistic for the reference cell device, determines a weighting factor for the reference cell device, and displays of a ranking score determined as a function of the weighting factor, the filtered statistic data, and the filtered key performance indicator metric. The ranking score provides an ordering that can be used to restore critical cell site devices and/or base station devices.

Patent number: 9161269
Abstract: The present invention discloses for the ability for processing circuit switched (CS) services in an evolved packet network. For example, embodiments provide a method that includes: by a mobility management entity (MME), receiving a mobile terminated (MT) service indication from a mobile switching center (MSC); sending the MT service indication to user equipment (UE); and receiving an MT service response returned by the UE and performing subsequent operations according to the MT service response. In the method of the present invention, when an MT service arrives, the MME does not trigger the evolved NodeB (eNodeB) to hand over the packet switched (PS) services of the UE but notifies the UE of the MT service and performs subsequent operations according to the MT service response returned by the UE, thus avoiding the waste of network resources caused by a meaningless handover of PS services.
