Amelio Pledges a Smooth Shift To New Mac Operating System

Apple Computer Inc. Chairman Gilbert Amelio Tuesday outlined his plan to restore the troubled company to its former glory as the industry innovator.

Mr. Amelio, in his long-awaited talk at the MacWorld trade show in San Francisco, promised a smooth shift to a new Macintosh operating system, code-named Rhapsody, which will be a blend of Apple's technology and that of Next Software Inc., run by Apple's co-founder and former chairman, Steven Jobs.
