Preston Mattingly traded by Los Angeles Dodgers before father Don Mattingly gets a chance to manage

Preston Mattingly

Former Great Lakes Loon infielder Preston Mattingly received some good news/bad news Sunday when he was traded by the Los Angeles Dodgers to the Cleveland Indians for outfielder Roman Pena.

Mattingly, 23, has struggled since the Dodgers picked him in the first round of the 2006 draft. He hit .194 in Class A Inland Empire this season. In five minor league seasons, Mattingly has a .232 batting average.

The irony comes in the timing. Mattingly's father, Don Mattingly, is the Dodgers hitting coach and has been named the Dodgers manager for the 2011 season.
