Tristan Wirfs is now the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL history.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the star left tackle agreed to a five-year extension worth $140 million, with more than $88 million guaranteed, league sources said.

Wirfs, 25, is a three-time Pro Bowler, 2021 first-team All-Pro and 2022 second-team All-Pro tackle and was instrumental in helping the Bucs capture a Super Bowl crown in the 2020 season by protecting quarterback Tom Brady. Tampa Bay’s 2020 first-round pick started his career at right tackle, but flipped to left tackle last season. He’s been one of the best offensive linemen in the league on either side.

Making him the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL history was inevitable. I know we just moved past Pro Football Hall of Fame weekend. But we’ll be celebrating Wirfs’ induction eventually if he keeps up this pace. — Larry Holder, NFL senior writer
