So I just had a meeting with the owner and the rest of the staff…I’ll spare you the boredom…I’m getting a “promotion” as he wants the company to look into doing SEO (search engine optimatization) for clients and wants me to oversee the whole selling staff and be a middleman between them and our India team who will actually do it.
Moving on…
He brought out that the problem with the country I live in (I’m completely politically neutral btw) is that Medicare is bleeding them dry. One of his statements, almost word for word is that: “A 90 year old father walks into a hospital and has stomach pain so he racks up all kinds of bills that are left to his family and he has complications like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart problems, etc and that the only reason they want him alive while he’s ‘suffering’ is to get his social security check”.
First of all, WHAT THE @#$#!!! That’s just sick thinking!!! If my father was in that situation, hell yes I’d want him alive. If he was comatose or something, that would be a different situation. But he’s family and I love him! It took everything I had to keep my composure and not flip out for that comment. I just don’t know what is going on in his sick, twisted mind but I feel that although this company may have some decent prospects for the future economically (a HUGE maybe…) I don’t want to be here much longer for purely ethical reasons. I have more self-respect than that…

…That’s a pretty backwards way of thinking. It’s like saying the only reason we eat steak is to slaughter cows for the fun of it. I’m pretty sure the healthcare system actually cares about people and isn’t just one massive conspiracy to extract money out of people by keeping them alive. Yeah, people pay to be hospitalized but the hospital isn’t doing tests just to do tests and get money. They want to find out what’s wrong, first of all. I’m sure some people have stories of unnecessary bills and whatnot, but the entire system isn’t based on that.

In the case of that executive: he obviously has a short-sighted view. Wonder what he’ll think when he’s the 90 year old man. Maybe someone should put him out of his misery now.

Not sure whether the stupidity of that statement outweighs the callousness or vice versa, but it’s unfortunately the case that any subject, no matter what it is, will always inspire stupid people to make sweeping generalizations.

If this is the same company that you had the issue with the power strips with it’s time to go. Sounds like it’s just a “job” with minimal potential returns for a great deal of head/desk banging. Update your resume and be on your merry way.

It is and I have already had two interviews at different places (haven’t heard back on either one yet) but I’m looking. I’m ready to be gone…

Wow, I’m right there with you AJ. That is definitely a man that only has one thought on his mind…his money. You’ve got the right idea in getting out of there, from the sounds of things that owner will only ever care about #1.

He also made the comment that basically everyone over 80 is worthless. That was the thing that really got me…I have 3 grandparents that live in my house with my family that are not quite but only a couple years or so from that age…they are FAR form worthless…just so much about this man irritates me…NOT a good situation to be in…

Sounds pretty awful. And getting into SEO? Talk about a dime a dozen business. I get a call from an “SEO shop” 2-3 times a day.

I hear the stories second-hand (my wife is a nurse in an ICU). It is not uncommon for families to keep patients on life-support for “other” reasons. But, I also hear stories about families (those that bother to show up) who walk into the hospital ready to pull the plug .

I guess I’m confused how Medicare is killing him? Medicare makes up only 1.45% of the total FICA payment (approx 15% total).
That being said… yeah it’s pretty ludicrous to think ‘that’ is the only reason his family wants him alive. Although it’s not completely unheard of either…

Yes, I agree. There are sick people out there with ulterior motives behind keeping aged family members alive. However, how many, compared to the non-sicko masses are there?? I’m just saying. No flamewars guys…just needed to rant…vent…rave…
