I’m looking to change a couple of friends to 2-factor and wondered what you thought of both? While Yubikey is $25, GA is free, but then you have the NSA issue

@Google

5 Spice ups

If you’re that worried about the NSA, use Yubikey.

While Google is a great , cheaper and easier way to implement two factor authentication, it lacks

the extra protection provided by Yubikey(authentication method based on a unique physical token which cannot be duplicated or recorded).

I might be missing something here but if the NSA get access to your Google account then a 2 factor method won’t stop that. It’s simply stopping others, bar the service provider, accessing your data. I’d highly recommend 2 factor to keep your data safe, but bear in mind its restrictions.

Yubikey is a great option for a hardware solution – much nicer than traditional hardware tokens. Also, the Yubikey Nano is amazingly small and great for laptops and desktops you need to authenticate with a lot.

Further, you can integrate Yubikeys into many other services, such as ours ( Duo Security ). I wouldn’t worry so much about the NSA as much as every other attacker on the internet cracking stolen passwords or brute forcing logins. Adding two-factor is a great idea, no matter who you end up going with but take a look at Duo and feel free to ask any questions you like via message or this post.

need to look into Yubikey
