We use Microsoft 365. Our accounts have MFA. We use Password+Microsoft Authenticator. We are working with a seperate company that has invited about 5 of our employees to their sharepoint site. When we accept the invitation, we have to enter our password, but then it prompts us to setup Microsoft Authenticator, even though it is already configured on our account.

Does this make sense? It requires me to enter the password for my native account, but then it requires me to setup a 2nd authenticator. Almost like it is it doesn’t recognize the account has mfa.

I want to say that maybe it is actually a separate account, but then why does it only accept my native password?

Anyway, I am just curious if this is normal for inter-tenant sharepoint connections.

This happens because of the way they were ‘invited’ to see the other companies’ content. They’re setup as ‘guests’ on the other side, so it is exactly like they’re getting ‘new’ accounts.

right, and I get that, as a new account. but it is requiring our existing accounts’ password. So, it is isn’t a new account.

It’s like it is a new account for the 2nd factor, but not the password factor.
