Upgraded to version 5.2.74175 of Spiceworks this morning and when it launched it stayed at the “Updating… This will take a few minutes”. After 10 minutes I opened the URL in a new tab and the IE displayed an error saying I did not have something enabled like JAVA or cookies. I had not made any changes. IE is version 8.0.7600.16385.
I installed Firefox and it launched fine. I relaunched IE and it came up fine. I cannot duplicate the issue but wanted to make you aware of this.
2 Spice ups
I have seen something similar to this. But I have also had this issue every once and a while with even my 5.1 versions. It is almost as if the original window fails to see it start up and then after some time I really have no idea how much it starts just fine and continues to work. Don’t know if a service just took too long to start or what. Out of curiosity what are you running your spiceworks on. Mine is hosted on a Windows server 2008 R2.
PS Side not I have not tried launching it with a different browser other than IE. My IE version is 9.0.8112.16421
My Spiceworks server is a dedicated VM. It is also running Server 2008 R2 (Standard) - 64 bit with only 1GB of RAM but performance is great so I have not allocated more RAM.
Hey Richard,
Thanks for letting us know - it sounds like Spiceworks may have taken an unusually long time to upgrade. Could you send us your log files for review?
I’ll PM you with details.
