I need to access the web GUI for my Overland NEO 2000 tape library to download the configuration. I have not logged in for a while, because it was not in use. I installed java, and am using IE tab on Chrome for access. When I go to the network address, I am getting this error: " If this message is visible, you probably need to enable Java operation for your browser. "

I have enabled java to run under Control Panel > Java > security, and white listed the IP address in question. Is there a specific java version that is required? I am running version 8u.212.

I wonder what I am missing …

According to the official documentation https://ftp1.overlandtandberg.com/public/TechSupportDocs/External/10400171-001_A.pdf , the web GUI can be accessed using either Microsoft Internet Explorer (3.0 or higher), Firefox (1.0 or higher), or Netscape (3.0 or higher) browser with Java and FTP configured. That usually means using a machine with an older Windows version is a must. You can try Windows 7 or even Windows XP for that purpose. Using a virtual machine for that purpose is preferred for convenience.

Your current tape library is outdated, making it complicated to manage and support. You may want to replace it with a newer one or a virtual tape library Virtual Tape Library (VTL) from StarWind .

I talked with someone on Reddit who was able to access their Overland NEO using Windows 8 and IE 11.0.9600.20671.
Java is also required. The person who successfully connected was using Java 8u221. Firefox and Chrome did not work - it resulted in the " If this message is visible, you probably need to enable Java operation for your browser. " error.

I am using Server 2012R2, and IE11 with a higher build without success. I will try to see if I can access an older OS and try again.

You may have to play with Java security settings allowing everything listed there and beyond. That may be the actual culprit in your case.

I still have a bunch of older hardware (SANs, network switches) that offer Java- and Flash-based web UIs. A pure Windows 7 virtual machine is what I usually use to manage those old boxes.

I finally got access to my NEO2000 through a Windows7 32 bit system. I installed 32 bit java 8u221, white listed my IP addresses in the java control panel plugin, then used the default IE 8 browser for access.
