Hello all.

We use RingCentral and conduct regular audio conference calls through their conference bridge. Although we can and do record these calls, RC doesn’t provide any automatic transcription for them. This seems quite odd because RC transcribes voice mail messages by default and apparently can do transcription for the audio on video conferences, but for whatever reason doesn’t do transcription for audio-only calls. (Confirmed this with an RC customer service rep, BTW.)

As a result, I’m looking for recommendations for some kind of hosted service that can transcribe the recorded calls we download from RC (in MP3 format). Since we’re using Microsoft 365 I looked into Azure Speech-to-Text, but that seems WAY too complicated to set up and maintain for my relatively simple needs.

Long story short what I’m looking for is the ability to upload the MP3 files we get from RC and download something resembling an accurate transcription, that doesn’t require jumping through numerous flaming hoops to get set up and doesn’t cost a fortune.

If anyone is doing this type of thing and has a service that they’re happy with, I’d greatly appreciate some recommendations.

Thanks very much.

Joe

Wassup Joe! Just to set the table I can tell you that we are agnostic trusted advisors to thousands of businesses in all aspects of IT Procurement - with an emphasis on UCaaS and Contact center environments. We are one of the largest partners globally for RingCentral, 8x8, Vonage and others and as RingCentral users ourselves, we had the exact same need ourselves.

Now that you have some context I can tell you that we had been a beta tester and now in full production with a product called Jiminny (UK based) and they provide exactly what you are after - call recording and transcription for starters, AI and other insights on these calls and more. It is expensive and there are other options. They integrate into RingCentral (I think we were the or one of the first customers), as well as Zoom, Teams and other platforms.

We are also aligned at the executive level at RingCentral and I can share that they are working on a feature release to do this out of the box - I am checking on ETA on that now and will update this chain

Additionally, there are some UCaaS solutions that do this out of the box, so if you have any interest or ability to look at non RingCentral solutions, we can help there too. Dialpad would be one that I would bring into the conversation on day 1.

And there are some specific tools out there that we have implemented in various contact centers that I think should work here within RingCentral as well - just need to verify a few things

Happy to talk more and help work through the issue and advise on the overall landscape. If you have some desire and ability to look at other options, there are some nice cost savings likely as well. If you want to stay put on RC, we can show you a few AI/Transcription tools that we have implemented into UCaaS and Contact Center environments at various price points as well.

Shoot me a PM if you want to connect, or you can request help on our website: www.commquotes.com/spiceworks

Hi Phil.

Thanks for the response. I saw Jiminny in the RC App Gallery-- might consider that if I need to, but yeah, a bit pricey.

Not really in a position to switch providers-- at least not for a while-- so if you do have any insight with RC as to when audio transcription is coming, that would be much appreciated.

If it’s not imminent, I would like to talk to you about options. I don’t really need tight integration.

Thanks!

Hello Joe! I just talked to my engineering team and it sounds like it is in Beta now and GA will be this summer, likely July. I would reach out to your account manager and ask for a demo, they can do that for you now and see if it will work. You can possibly get into the BETA as well and start using it.

I will PM you my contact info as well so you can reach out if needed anytime.
