Virtualization consultant Edward Haletky attended SpiceWorld last month and filed this report . He says, “SpiceWorks, its community, and its method of marketing to SMB/Es offer a unique approach, one worth watching. It is a community worth participating in.”

Nice write up about spiceworks from this guy. Looks like spiceworks has made another believer and follower.

Cool. I sat down with him during lunch the second day and chatted about VMware and their direction. Honestly, I didn’t know who he was, but he seemed to really know his stuff.
You know the #1 thing I liked about that article? He stated immediately that his attendance was paid for by SpiceWorks.

That’s some good advertising right there.
This is a great read, thank you for sharing.

The article was OK - nothing special. I’m glad that it helps spread the word about Spiceworks, but I think he underestimates the level of sophistication at SMBs. While we may not be able to afford many of the Enterprise tools, I think we know about them and they are on our wish lists. I certainly drool over some of the stuff that the big boys get to use.

The tone of surprise continue’s to underline how clueless big enterprise companies are to the SMB. “Wow, maybe VMware should test this”? He says. It’s not like any of us have asked them and essentially get ignored, right?
I work for a big enterprise now, and the other admins have no clue the challenges of a SMB. But we do get to play with some cool stuff that would be more than interesting to a SMB.

Wow, SpiceWold is becoming big time. hope it doesn’t change to much.
Glad to hear all the positives are going about for SWorks. I just came back from Interop NYC. Usually this is a huge event. This was one sad panda. 125 vendors and I went through 100% of them in 2.5 hours including 15 minute lunch of an overpriced salad.
The vendors looked bored and nothing crazy popped up. We had several that did the Interop “10 minute speech” which is boring most of the time. Cisco and HP had enormous booths and I edged around each.
The keynotes were fine and I’m glad I got in for free.
And this made all the difference in comparison to SWorld. On a positive note, I did get to talk to some vendors I did not talk to at SWorld and came away with some good ideas.
More SWorld and I can’t wait to see what happens to Interop. Largest IT conference… but not in NYC!
