Hi all,

We have a client who wants to move away from a on site server to access documents,

We looked at Dropbox and SharePoint, but the client at the moment as around 15TB of data which will only grow,

SharePoint would cost them around £1,700+ a month if they went to SharePoint,

Are there any cheaper alternatives out that that you guys use,

Client wants to move away from VPN to the server and access all documents from the cloud?

Thanks in advanced

{"@type":"Person
[{"@type":"Answer

depends whats on the fileshare

CAD - look at a cloud based PLM

Other stuff look at the use cases for the files, a saas based Document managements system may help but it maybe time to look at the file layout, who has access and the the process flows are.Lift & Shift geneerally doesnt work well.

Accounts data should be in a ledger system

HR in a HR system

A general ERP move might be better (eg Netsuite)

Dont forget any legal requirements like GDPR as they move.

Alfresco maybe worth a look for their hosted DocMgmt but you’ll still need to think about file layout and access

{"@type":"Person
maxsec
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/maxsec"}},{"@type":"Answer

Hi,

What kind of documents are these? Are they all MS Office?

Can you not move older documents into a cloud archive? That would probably save you quite a bit of money.

{"@type":"Person
studiotwo
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/studiotwo"}},{"@type":"Answer

Hi both, and thanks for the quick reply,

Basically they are anything from word and excel documents to Pictures to power points, just your normal day to day documents etc,

They could move old documents to archive which they would have to decide on this, but you know what clients are like, “oh we need everything”

SharePoint would be idea for them the way it works, but is too expensive for them.

{"@type":"Person
Karl.Thompson
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/Karl.Thompson"}},{"@type":"Answer

Cloud storage is an absolute minefield. Costs can be very difficult to calculate without a huge amount of research.

Some cloud services charge by the amount of data you STORE, whilst others charge for the “Bandwidth” you use.

Have you tried reaching out to a reseller? They will probably be able to help you focus your requirements and find the best solution.
