Az-104 is a great all around cert if you will be using Azure specifically (Don’t confuse azure with M365, which has its own admin certs!). Beware, its fairly difficult because its a vendor specific certification, which means its not testing theory, but hyper specific applications of proprietary software. I had a lot of difficulty in this regard, because in many cases theres no real way to “figure it out”, you have to just know the answer.

If you are truly a complete beginner, AZ-900 (Azure Fundamentals) might be a better starting point. You don’t even need to take the exam but studying for the content for a month first might get you more familiar with the terminology, so you won’t be slowed down by that language in AZ-104. I say you don’t need to take the exam because the AZ-900 certification is relatively useless to employers. The intermediate or above certifications are more like “qualifications”, and the fundamentals is more like “I’m interested in this and have put some verified time into learning it”.

Here is my advise as others have already linked to some great study resources:

During practice questions, make a quizlet flashcard set of term/definition pairs or specific knowledge points that you miss, and study those more often than just general term flashcards.
For example: “RBAC Role and License required for SSPR?” A: “Authentication Policy Administrator, Entra P1 License”
“Modes of Azure policy?” A: “Indexed, All”
My advise for this is that theres many questions that rely on a very specific piece of yes/no knowledge (such as “What type of license is needed for x”), so you waste time if you continue to review knowledge you already know or are somewhat familiar with. Spend more time “filling the knowledge gaps” then you do for a normal test/cert prep.

Like the first piece of advise, your best study tool will be practice questions. The study videos are where you will start, and go through (doing notetaking) of the official learn page, but at the end of the day both these resources will still miss 10-20% of the content on the exam questions. Using practice questions will help pull out those hyper specific knowledge pieces, which you can study like flashcards using quizlet. Your general Azure knowledge (from videos, MS Learn, etc.) will get you about 60% of the test, then you need to rely on memorized Azure ‘facts’ to get you that last 10-15% needed to pass.

Hi! Great to hear that you’re planning to take the AZ-104 exam – it’s a solid step toward becoming an Azure Administrator.

To pass AZ-104, you’ll need a good understanding of core Azure services, managing identities, storage, compute, networking, and monitoring. Since you’re new to Azure, I’d suggest first going through Microsoft Learn – it’s free and covers the official learning path.

For practice, I highly recommend using ExamsNinja. I’m also preparing for AZ-104 right now and using ExamsNinja for practice tests, updated exam dumps questions, and real exam-like scenarios. If you’re new to Azure, why put an exam on the front of your list until you gain experience.
Get the right answers. I’m joking of course, but why are you wanting to sit an exam and get tips to pass it, if you’re new. You want to gain an understanding first and get knowledge before sitting an exam.
Here is a study guide
AZ-104 Microsoft Azure Administrator Certification Guide – (2025) – Exam Tips
Practice in a sandbox or Azure Free Tier.
Study for 6–8 weeks with a mix of theory and hands-on labs.
Duration : 120 minutes
Questions : 40–60 (multiple-choice, case studies, drag-and-drop)
Passing Score : 700/1000
You’ll be tested on your ability to:
Manage Azure identities and governance
Azure AD, RBAC, subscriptions, and policies
Implement and manage storage
Blob storage, file shares, and storage accounts
Deploy and manage Azure compute resources
VMs, containers, and App Services
Configure and manage virtual networking
VNets, VPNs, ExpressRoute, and network security
Monitor and back up Azure resources
Azure Monitor, alerts, and backup solution
If you are looking for a great Azure resource, you should follow this gentleman. He produces a ton of great content.

Their materials include free and premium options, and the format is very close to the real exam, which helps a lot with confidence and time management.
About the exam structure – it typically includes:
Multiple choice questions
Drag and drop
True/false
Case study questions , which are usually 4–5 questions based on a long scenario.
Yes, case study questions can feel a bit tricky at first, but they’re manageable if you understand how to apply Azure concepts to real-world problems. Practicing under time pressure and reviewing your weak areas will help a lot.
