So, I have a Fitbit and it’s on its last leg so I’m thinking of moving to something like the Amazfit T-Rex or Apple Watch. Yes, I am running iOS (my daughter is on iPhone so it helps).

While I do like having my phone notifications (txts, etc.), the main reason I have my Fitbit is for health – mainly checking my walking, jogging (someday I’ll get back up to running), and tracking sleep.

I know I’ve seen a few members wearing Apple Watches at SpiceWorld and I’ve seen messages on here about Amazfit… wondering if anyone has used both and, if so, what did you end up going with and why?

Someone of your advanced years is probably right now using this

So anything will be an update, although unlikely as durable. This sucker is waterproof. Sadly does not work at night.

I haven’t ever used the Amazfit but I do really like my apple watch for the things you have mentioned, it also just keeps me in the loop more as I sometime don’t check my messages and just doom scroll but with the watch it reminds me to actually respond. I also really like it for when I workout as I don’t have to bring my phone with me so I don’t get distracted, I also believe the newer ones have the ability to have an SD card in them so you can make calls from them without having it connect to your phone.

PS, I am not sponsored by apple but I would like to be lol

Personally, as a regular (but very slow) jogger, I’d suggest going with a Garmin

Never heard of Amazfit to be fair, but it seems interesting. Obviously being Chinese made, there’s that tinfoil hat stigma that comes with it, but I don’t have any of that. I too am part of the iOS family when it comes to my phone but I haven’t quite bit the bullet when it comes to the apple watch, mostly cause I was cheap and went with a Fitbit. It does enough integration wise for me, I can see a text but I can’t answer it.

Personally I’ve been migrating to an Oura ring metrics-wise it’s never been far off from my Fitbit and I think it does a better job of measuring sleep stats. I like the slim profile that it just sits on my finger, I don’t need to cinch the band tighter when I go for a run, and never need to replace the band. I hear support is really good but I’ve never had to in almost 15 months now. It’s great at automatically detecting naps, workouts, etc. As of last month they added integration into Apple Health and syncs your workouts and steps back to the health app on the phone, a point of contention for Fitbit users.
Now full disclosure I’m aware of the irony that I declared I’m cheap, but went with the "subscription based “fitness tracker”.

I switched from Fitbit to an Apple Watch a few years ago and haven’t looked back. The disconnect and sync issues that I had with Fitbit are gone and the features that you can use to control calls or ping your phone are fantastic!

Not on any of your choices but I would suggest looking at Garmin watches.

I really love the apple watch. Granted I have not used anything else. But in my opinion, it is top tier with mobile wearable technology. The health apps and integrations it have are just as good as fitbits and others it seems.

Sooo, I did end up going with an Apple Watch and got the Series 8. I was originally going to get the 41mm but they only had the 45mm at the location, so I ended up getting it. It also didn’t hurt that the Series 9 was just announced and about to be released, so I got mine at a good price, heh.

It definitely integrates better with my cell, and I’ve found some great health apps that work with it.

Kate is enjoying her Amazfit, but I would definitely make the same decision (for me) again and get the Apple Watch.

I actually debated between an Apple Watch and an Amazfit recently too. I ended up with the Apple Watch Series 9, and I totally get what you’re saying about the integration—it just feels seamless with my iPhone. Funny thing is, I also have a soft spot for traditional watches. I’ve been eyeing some rolex super clone models online (just out of curiosity), but when it comes to everyday practicality, the Apple Watch wins hands down. It’s amazing for tracking workouts and staying on top of notifications.

I bought in to the Apple watch/ecosystem years ago. I’m happy with it, but I like it more for my messaging (is nice to see the subject line of emails so I know if there’s something urgent.) It’s “OK” for the fitness side. The sensors are passable, but not the best in the industry.

Don’t know anything of the Amazfit. My dad uses Garmin for fitness and I’ve heard others rave about them. Battery life is supposed to be excellent and they look nice too.

Garmin are amazing for fitness/activity etc. The health info is very detailed compared with Apple/fitbit.
Fitbit is a great value otpion - I had these for years before switching to Garmin. 5 day battery even when using gps for activity etc
Apple - I just can’t do as battery life is just too short. I would have to take it off to charge in the day and I always forget to put it back on.

I’m not a fan of the Apple ecosystem so I opted for a Amazfit GTR 4 (OS now called Zepp). I liked the ability to change the faces of the screen to more resemble traditional watches, plus it does really good tracking biometrics. Sadly no blood pressure though. Accurately gets my sleep patterns right.
Integration with my Moto phone (Android) works a little. I get phone call notifications, but can only hang up on the caller. Still good enough when you’re in a noisy environment. Haptic buzzing on the wrist to let me know.
When I was looking for a smartwatch with health tracking abilities, I wasn’t really in the market for phone integration, so the GTR4 fits my needs perfectly. It’s been a solid watch for over a year now. YMMV however.

The Amazfit devices are inexpensive and work for basic tasks. Mine was about $29. The battery lasts for a couple of weeks. It meets all of my basic needs. I use it for sleep patterns, basic health metrics, and various app notifications. If you want more, spend the $ for the right ecosystem.

Neither and never.

Oura looks really interesting. And has good privacy practices for a fitness device! https://foundation.mozilla.org/en/privacynotincluded/oura-ring/

For the curious like me, the Apple Watch looks to be above average for privacy. https://foundation.mozilla.org/en/privacynotincluded/apple-watch/

The Amazfit wasn’t listed by Mozilla, but every single other Amazon product was rated "Privacy NOT Included.

Apple watch seems like an expensive failure to me. The reason I say that is because they can’t even make the battery last a single day. So you can’t wear it all the time so you don’t get the health monitoring benefits they claim it offers. For what they charge for these the battery should at least last a couple of days.

Even my my $50 knock of smart watch has a battery that lasts a week.
