Another Logmein price hike?

Just received an email this morning from Logmein- my single logmein subscription has gone from $0 (back when it was free) to $70/yr (2014-2015) to $149/yr (2016) to now $249.99/yr? Are they serious? Does anybody have a good alternative to this obvious price-gouging?

I’m not sure if this is the case under the plan you are on but I had a talk with a lmi rep a few years back when the Central price shot up. During that discussion he explained to me that they had a price target that they were trying to move accounts to but rather than get to that price point all at once that they were doing yearly increases to get to that target figure.

Whether he was just pulling my leg, whether that applies to your situation not sure…

How many computers do you have on your subscription? Seems incredibly expensive. Why don’t you purchase a VPN firewall and quit paying all together?

I used to have 10 machines on my pro account, then they cut me back to just 2. I really only use it for one machine (my work machine) and my Dad’s PC for when he needs help. In looking at the alternatives it looks like 10 machines is the standard minimum by the other companies. I was so galled by the price this morning that I posted this in a rage before really reading all the other Logmein alternative threads, even though they are all around a year old (the last LMI price hike). Looks like I could pay for a year of splashtop, remotetopc, and screenconnect at the same time and still be under logmein’s current price. You are right though md0221- I should probably just do that instead. Logmein, through it’s simplicity, has lulled me into complacency w/ setting up VPN.

Hey George- yes, we’ve seen a lot of threads around LogMeIn’s pricing changes (linking to one here ), and there are definitely alternatives. Wanted to give you some info about TeamViewer’s remote access tools, which would fit your needs well. You can set up unattended access and have screen sharing capabilities, plus a lot of other features, which I’m linking to below.

For just 2 accounts use the Chrome Remote Desktop extension.

The case is pretty much what DarienA said though, the past 5 years our price has gone up every year, they say we are finally settled on our “normal” price now…

For me, went from free, years ago, to now $899! Logmein central, under 100 computers. I have until May 1st to replace. Evaluating screenconnect and splashtop at the moment.

Great! Splashtop Remote Support is cost effective (starting at $249 per year for 100 computers). Please let me know if any question. You are welcome to switch earlier… Splashtop can offer free months for the months you have remaining on your LMI Central subscription. This way, you don’t need to be rushed when May 1st comes around…

Wow I’m pretty impressed with what I’m seeing re:Splashtop Remote Support… we’ve got an expiring LMI subscription coming up, we use it for supporting our users as well as allowing remote access and this seems very similar to our LMI needs but at a fraction of the cost… Mark I’m going to reach out to you as I have a few questions about some of the functionality.
