I recommend Bob.Omb’s Modified Win10PEx64. I use quite a number of the tools on it.

It’s been years since I have used it but Hirens worked on the earlier Windows 10 builds (pre 1511) when I tested it. Just remember that this would only reset your local administrator password and not a Microsoft account password.

I’ve been using Active@ Password Changer since XP days.

Another vote for Hirens

As many before me have said, Hiren’s was my go to. Haven’t had to use it in years though.

They closed that hole years ago. I usually boot to install media, mount the registry from the drive, and manually turn on the built-in admin account, then start the computer normally and change the password from there (remember to disable the built-in admin account when you’re done):

If they user has a Microsoft account, they just need to change the password at:

I have had good luck with KONBOOT

I see that this has been resolved, but I will also say Hirens. It’s a great tool, we have it in our kit as a permanent device for situations like this.

Hiren’s Boot is one amazing tool manage to do so much with it.

JUST for anyone else that comes across this. i believe no tool out there (that i have used/come across) that resets windows accounts that have been linked to a Microsoft account.

What i did once was boot into Hirens Disk and then I created a new user (give admin rights) and then log in to that account and managed to do what i needed from there.

You can still use the rename cmd to utilman. Although I also just enable the built-in administrator with net user and then boot and login. I actually just tried this on my machine to confirm and it still works. I am on 20H2.

I have used this trick before when users have forgotten their passwords. There are even ways to reset Microsoft account passwords by using this method. This is why we enable encryption on all our drives. (I suspended it while I tried this bypass.)
