I have had the Spiceworks software running on my workstation without any problems. I then installed the software on the file server, moving the relevent data directories to the new location.
When Spiceworks next did a scan, it moved my computer from the workstation zone to the unknown zone, with the above error.
I have checked the firewall settings and the dcomcnfg settings.
I did reset the login password when I installed it on the server, but since I still get the data from all the other workstations, I would not have thought that would be the problem, although it was previously the same as the administartor password.
The administrator password has not changed, although my workstation / username password was changed a few weeks before moving the software. Spiceworks has been uninstalled from my workstation.

I now get the following scan error:
“There was a Windows authentication error when attempting to connect to this device.
We can no longer connect to using Windows authentication. It’s possible that there is a DNS problem and another computer responds to the name im (check the DNS tab), or the account we are using does not work.
You can fix this problem by selecting a Windows account Spiceworks should use to connect to this device. Please select the account below.”
I have tried using the admin and also the domain/administrator accounts from the drop down box, and get the following message when I select test:
“Test Failed: check account, password or WMI configuration”
Any ideas?
Ivan, still need help with this? You’re one of the few people from this era still around!

I’d forgotton about this thread!
Ceating a new administrator just for SW scanning seems to have fixed the problem (for now).
