I’m looking into some DevOps Certs. AWS/Docker
I’m specifically looking at the AWS certified SysOps Admin certification. Has anyone taken this certification. Any help on best places to find online training? I have several years of IT experience, but I’m totally new to AWS any ideas on how quickly someone coming into AWS could obtain enough training to complete this certification?

It’s always worth doing some actual practice as well as the training. The training itself won’t be enough to pass, I don’t think. You will actually need to try out AWS for yourself and do the things you learned in the training to fully understand it and be properly prepared for the exam.
I’m looking at the AWS Certified DevOps Engineer myself, and I’ve started to use CBT Nuggets (thanks to my employer for paying for this) as my training resource. It has shown me a few things I didn’t already know, so the training is great and very helpful.
So good luck with your training and let us know if/when you pass the exam.

Preparing for the exam using both.
AWS CSA-associate passed using linuxacademy only.

I paid for a Udemy training on AWS Solutions Architect. The content has been great so far and easy to follow. For how cheap it is, it’s worth a look.
I’m going through acloud.guru right now and am really happy with it. There’s a lot of hands on labs where you work in AWS alongside the lecture along with summaries and practice exams per section.
cybrary.com is a good place. I really enjoyed all the learning that they are offering. I have kept my self super busy doing that.
+1 For LinuxAcademy.
Kind of pricey, but it goes way beyond AWS Certified SysOps as well.

+1 for LinuxAcademy.com all of their material is great and they have at least 25 passes a month for AWS related certs. Their success rate for students is 96%.

I’d like more info on training for AWS also!
We have an AWS account running off a load balancer for our ecommerce platform and managed by Rackspace. After 2 months it’s very stable and easy to update code, however I want to knock down the monthly charges but Rackspace only has 2 account levels, fully managed where they take care of everything or unmanaged where it’s all on you.
If there are problems it seems there is no help when using the unmanaged account with Rackspace and this is turning me off. I need more skills in case of the unknowns that may occur that Rackspace will not assist on a per incident basis.

If you’re interested in getting some training, I’d definitely check out what New Horizons offers! Each of the AWS associate level certifications require only one course, plus the exam. We offer the full suite of authorized AWS courses and certifications, through partnership with ExitCertified. The attached product sheet shows the certifications and corresponding courses on pg 2.
Let me know if you have any questions!

Just a heads up for those using acloud guru for training. He makes the AWS training videos on Udemy. If you shop around, with a coupon code you can get the AWS solutions architect one for less than $30. I believe that’s about what acloud guru sells his content for ($29) right now. If you use Udemy for other training videos (they have tons) it may be worth using instead so you have one account with all your training materials. The prices are very similar.

I have visited one training lecture of New Horizons around here, it was a very nice experience and really helpful! I looked at Excel and Domain Controllers training. If your company wants to train their users, this would be my goto address!

LINUX ACADEMY for the win! LA will give you hands on training, videos, notes, and allow you to fire up aws servers for labs and testing. You can pass with LA only. I think its like $10 or $20 for the first month and $29 after that. Its the only thing you will need aside from a web browser. Im studying for my RedHat cert with a chromebook. SSH and terminal are built into chrome browser so all my training is from a chromebook and when I get bored I fire up my pc and setup VMs but they arent needed…at all if you have a linux academy account.

Maybe that will help Linux users, however AWS offers both Linux and Windows, so the suggestion may not be good for everyone.

But 95% of the training is based on AWS not on Linux or Windows. Windows server training is a whole different animal and doesnt have a lot in common with becoming AWS certified.

I found that when I needed assistance at Rackspace the AWS Linux engineers needed to engage an AWS Windows engineer and could not help.
Training to pass a test is one thing, training for real world problems is another. Rackspace has divided up their engineers and granted there are some things both will and can do that are similar but if your focus is Linux then LINUX ACADEMY is probably great. If your focus is Windows then maybe think again since the learning may be with a lot of Linux references that would be out of place.
If you are looking for Docker material, the two books that I strongly recommend looking at right now are available from Manning Publishing. Docker in Action and Docker in Practice. Both good books. Also there’s a bunch of good free training available from Docker and there are some more meat and potatoes training available through Pluralsight.
We (the community) are getting a special space for Docker / Container discussions soon, I’ll start posting a lot of resources there once it’s live.

I’m currently running through the docker free online self paced training videos. Pretty good stuff to get my feet wet. What are some other cloud areas to focus training on? Looking to keep from getting stagnant and future proof my career.
