I remember one time that happened and they said 70% of the internet stopped working. This is probably not as good of a thing as Facebook going down. This we need to come back.

We lost SmartSheet access and had contract administrator’s complaining this AM, it’s reassuring that we didn’t have any other direct services impacted by this.

The irony here is that my company JUST switched from an ancient in house VOIP phone system to a snazzy new, modern, super-reliable cloud based VOIP system. Which of course uses AWS for authentication and other services. So less than a month after spending all that money and telling everyone how great the new system would be… we have an outage that is blocking well over 90% of our remote staff from using their phones.

Telling them “It’s not our fault, blame Amazon” really isn’t working.

Did you make it fault-tolerant to other regions and stuff?

Looks like only / mainly N. Virginia is affected.

Not seeing any affects here, but hearing my IT edu peers are feeling pinches from their hosted service offerings.

It looks like Amazon may not have made it fault tolerant. according to an update at https://www.datacenterdynamics.com/en/news/aws-us-east-1-outage-brings-down-services-around-the-world/ Amazon admitted “We have identified root cause and we are actively working towards recovery. This issue is affecting the global console landing page, which is also hosted in US-EAST-1.”

We’re hosted in US-East redundant across AZs (no regions) but our website seems to be working fine with the exception of some non-critical but intermittent S3 access issues. I’ve been looking on line to see if this is resolved because it’s been nearly 8 hours as of this writing. is this still a thing?

That was for the management console and Amazon provided direct links to go to other consoles in other regions.

Hi friends - Obviously yesterday was not an ideal situation, so I wanted to hop in for a sec. As already mentioned by @titusovermyer , here is a link to know about the status of AWS again: https://status.aws.amazon.com/

For any future scenario where you’re curious about AWS status, that link will provide brief updates. You can also click on “Open the Personal Health Dashboard”, which then requires you to log in and then you are able to see the impact of any outage and status for you personally.

Dang, I figured a place like SmartSheet would be designed with a bit more resiliency.
