Hi All,
Having used DirSync for a number of years but with an empty O365 instance, I now have a challenge at my new company merging on-prem AD accounts with O365 Exchange accounts.
I’ve tidied up the on-prem AD and also the O365 accounts as they both resembled a car crash and am ready to start the sync process. I have a couple of queries that I haven’t been able to get a clear answer on:
Our on-prem AD passwords are different to the O365 for ALL users. On the initial sync will the O365 passwords get overwritten with the on-prem meaning all Exchange connected devices will prompt for new passwords? I’d really like to manage this in batches as all our staff are spread out.
Although previously used DirSync I now have Azure Connect installed on our AD Server.
Thanks in advance

You can target the sync so it only applies to a specific OU in Active Directory, so you can move individual users or departments into that OU and they will then be synced.

That’s great, thank you. But do you know if as soon as the objects sync, the passwords in O365 are updated please?

Off the top of my head, yes.
The local AD passwords take precedence over the 365 accounts.
Are you sure the local AD accounts match up to the 365 ones?
i.e - the login is .com instead of .local in AD?

Yes, everything is setup as it should be, I’ve just not hit the sync button yet
Check this out as well. It saved me some headaches

If it helps in anyway you can force it by disabling password policies in O365 and let AD handle that.

Looks like Breffni’s got your back, but if you have any further questions about setup, let me know!
