Hello Spiceworks, we have been on Sharefile for about 3 years. A large amount of data is on the platform. About 1.2TB. A few months back the on the server signed out. Since there isnt anything really going on on the local server, it got missed until routing maintenance cam up. I’m actually in the same boat with ShareFile backups. Honestly, backing up ShareFile isn’t super straightforward because it’s a SaaS platform and there’s no easy full backup option built in. Most people either use third-party backup tools that connect through the ShareFile API (but those can cost extra and have some limits), write their own scripts to pull stuff down (which works but takes some effort to keep up), or just sync everything locally using the ShareFile client and then back up that folder like normal. Each way has its own headaches, like losing permissions or metadata, or big restores being super slow and painful if you ever need them. It definitely feels like more questions than answers when you first get into it, but you’re not alone. A lot of us are just figuring it out based on what matters most like how often you need backups or how much hassle you want.

{"@type":"Person
JohnFreeman
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/JohnFreeman"}},{"@type":"Answer

Yep, there are solid ways to back up ShareFile, especially if you’re looking at it as part of a broader SharePoint or data protection plan.

You can use ShareFile’s API to automate backups with scripts or PowerShell. We pair that with QSE’s API to add quantum-resistant entropy to your encryption and storage, which is ideal for us cause we’re in a regulated industry.

For a more turnkey setup, tools like MSP360, Asigra, or EVault can often be configured to work with ShareFile through its API.

Using the ShareFile and QSE API for data access, security, and backup has worked pretty well for us in terms of being efficient and flexible..

{"@type":"Person
JohnFreeman
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/JohnFreeman"}}]}}
Is anyone else backing up ShareFile? I have a project to figure out how to back it up, but there are definitely more questions than answers around this.

SharePoint or ShareFile?
Yes, we backup SPO. You can do so with Veeam365, QNAP and Synology or other 3rd party products.
ShareFile. Used to be owned by Citrix, now owned by Progress
