Hello all,

I recently got a report submitted by my colleague on the spice works network monitoring tool.

The thresholds are fine on the switch and routers as shown on the monitoring tool.

He points out that the spice works network monitoring tool is using up network resource ( 100GB sent/receive in 24 hours). However he got his details from a fortinet firewall and I am wondering how much data is too much data within the Lan with a capicity of 100mbps Ethernet switch and 10 servers being monitored.

Thanks

Something must be messed up or your reporting is incorrect. I am monitoring 20 servers and the reports I am seeing for total bandwidth usage for my spiceworks monitoring server is more like 220MBs over a 24hrs.

Yeah, 100GB is crazy… Sure the monitor uses some bandwidth, but it has saved me big problems on multiple occasions by letting me know when resources are down.

I highly doubt the network monitoring tool is sending 100gb through your firewall.

The firewall is placed in layer 2. I changed the spice works to another server and same thing. The protocol using the bandwidth is rpc(remote procedure call). Monitoring servers in different vlans. Any way I can troubleshoot will be helpful
