Hello all,

Hope somebody has some insight into what I might be missing here… I am attempting to do a bare metal recovery operation on a new physical machine using a full image backup taken of another machine on the network. I’ve loaded the BMR iso onto a bootable drive and booted into it on the new machine. I am able to find my Unitrends device in the UI and select the image backup I am trying to recover. I can ping the Unitrends device from the new machine just fine, but when I start the recovery it just sits and makes several attempt to make connection before failing with the error “Host appears to be up, but had a network related error (-255)”

I’ve tried researching the error message but signs are pointing to firewall or access list related problems, but the traffic isn’t passing through any firewalls, I’ve disabled all firewalls on the new machine and verified there isn’t an ACL on either interface of our core switch. Both devices are on the same VLAN. Has anyone else dealt with this error and have any tips to what I might try?

This is an IP conflict error within the memory/hosts/configuration of the UEB appliance.

When you boot to the UEB boot media, you need to set a manual IP for the client to a previously unused IP address.

I went through this very same issue about 9 months ago.

That did it! Thank you so much! The restore has successfully started for the first time.
