Hey everyone!

I’m currently going to be migrating about 300 plus users data from the their user drive to OneDrive. I’ve done some research but there seem to be multiple methods and a lot of pushback in the comments section. I’m currently looking at the Sharepoint Migration Tool, but I’m not sure about the CSV method for bulk migration. Can anyone share their preferred method or experiences. I would love to hear about proven methods performed in production environments.

Thank!

If possible I would send each employee an email letting them know their user drive will be disabled on a specific date, then ask them to move any important data to their OneDrive. If they want you to do this I believe the SharePoint Migration Tool has this capability, but I haven’t tested it out.

Sharepoint Migration tool is one of those tools for sure.

@ronstjuste I have this project pending for when I have the time.

I assume that now you are backing up your local data somehow. Have you figured out how you will be backing up your data once it’s on Microsoft’s cloud? That’s a question that I have in the back of my mind.

Hey Viking,

We’ll be using implementing @Backupify to backup user data for OneDrive as well as Sharepoint data. Since its built in and free, i’ll be backing up Teams data and messages, although I need to run it by Legal and my Director. We only maintain emails up to 1 year, but Backupify can hold onto the data indefinitely as long as that user is given a license. Time to re-write our Term SOP.

Thanks for the reply!

Actually a small MSP recommend Backupify to me a while back.

What did you mean by “Since its built in and free”?

And where does Backupiy backup to - their cloud? another cloud of your choosing? Local NAS? Colo?

My apologies if I caused any confusion. What I meant was that we are going to use Backupify as a method to backup End User Data in One Drive. Since Backupify also has the ability to backup Sharepoint sites (as well as Exchange and Teams), I’ll be modifying SOP’s to take advantage of the built in resources since it will be a paid service. I tend to ramble, let me know if that’s more clear.

Backupify is cloud based. Sorry, I forgot to mention that. The UI is very similar to Datto (since Datto purchased it a bit ago), so it may be familiar to some.
