I just recently discovered the free tools offered by Spiceworks and I am currently in the process of establishing an implementation plan. I have decided that I want to utilize the local version of help desk and manage engine. However, I am unsure of the best implementation method. Should I install the software on a server, or on my laptop that I use to work both onsite and remotely?

Any information is appreciated, especially regarding the pros and cons of both methods.

10 Spice ups

Spiceworks nd ManageEngine are separate products from separate vendors, and what product from ManageEngine are you looking to implement? THe on premise version of Spiceworks does Network inventory, Helpdesk, alerting, and more.

You would want to install either on a server in the environemnt you want to monitor and provide helpdesk for, or at least in a stable always on location that can access the networks you want to monitor and allows access for clients to the helpdesk portal.

(Use Zendesk)

I recommend setting up a sort of IT tools server, then installing your Inventory software (I recommend very highly PDQ), deployment software (PDQ), and your Spiceworks.
