Pictures - the built-in snip tool

Video - Snip also does this.

you also have ‘steps recorder’ built in to the OS which creates, a HTML page that guides everything you record, similarly to a PDF.

Outside of that, if you want video capture where you can overlay audio, OBS is free.

{"@type":"Person
Rod-IT
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/Rod-IT"}},{"@type":"Answer

I usually use the built-in Windows snipping tool for both pictures and videos. If I want to add audio, I normally just use Google Meet and record it.

I’m definitely going to watch this thread to see what other people suggest.

{"@type":"Person
Lois-Spiceworks
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/Lois-Spiceworks"}},{"@type":"Answer

You can use VLC to do this. I did a test once, when trying to do audio only, to discover you can capture the screen as well.

{"@type":"Person
tb33t
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/tb33t"}},{"@type":"Answer

Greenshot is great for stills, I never had a reason to capture video so I can’t comment on that.

{"@type":"Person
general-tsao
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/general-tsao"}},{"@type":"Answer

The occasional one I use the in-built snipping-tool or whatever it is named now (can’t recall)

The in-built recorder of MS was okish for some stuff but haven’t used it a lot.

If I have to edit the picture it depends - mostly greenshot - sometimes paint (the old one).

If I do step by step documentation I use greeshot, since I can just send it to my document directly or add the step numbers in the editor and then send it to the document.

{"@type":"Person
asfasty8215
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/asfasty8215"}}]}}
