We had a good discussion last week on ISP. With the new iPhone coming out Tuesday let’s find out what the best and worst cell phone service.

In Indiana the best choices are either Verizon or AT&T. T-Mobile is only good in the cities, not rural. Sprint is hit or miss, works well in some areas, not so well in others.
Not sure about the prepaid/no contract stuff as it depends on who the underlying carrier is which relates to the above statement.
This is my experience anyways…

I think the big two are AT&T and Verizon, personally I roll with AT&T. Having had all 4 (Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon & AT&T), I find AT&T to be the best for me. I used to be with Verizon, back before they were Verizon, GTE. Never really had a problem with them until I moved to where I am at now, I dropped a few calls, which is not that big of a deal as you get that with any carrier. My biggest complaint with Verizon at the time was their plans and customer service. When my wife and I were dating she had Cingular (now AT&T) and me with Verizon, and I kept going over my minutes talking to her as I traveled a lot back then. Calling up Verizon I asked if there was anything they could do like match Cingular’s plans because they had the roll over minutes and they said no and that they would be happy to move me over to the next price bracket. I said no thanks and switched, been happy ever since, of course now days all the calls are unlimited.
Having traveled a ton at my old job (averaged 200 days a year away from home), all over the USA, I have used all 4 carriers for company phones, and I always found AT&T and Verizon to be just about equal on coverage. Sometimes I would be in a place where AT&T didn’t want to work and Verizon did, and vice versa, but majority of the time they were equal. Found T-Mobile only worked really good inside of bigger citys and the same with Sprint.
Been all over Indiana with AT&T and never had any problems. And now that this FirstNet is taking off, AT&T’s service will get even better as it is my understanding that general public will be able to use this once operational and in the event of an emergency, first responders will get priority.

It’s sad that there are still so many area’s in Indiana, that have little to no coverage. Indiana is not that rural. Just west of Indy there is a large area that AT&T is the only coverage service and that is spotty. I know this is a discussion about cell service but even worst is that there is no high speed service of any kind other than satellite in a lot of areas. I mean I live 3 miles from the county court house and the best I can get is 1.5mbps, others are still on dial-up. How impressive is that?

Cingular was bought by AT&T. I know because I left AT&T for Cingular, only to end up back with AT&T.

Here in Columbus it is Verizon dominant on the cell service side, this is mainly because of Cummins Inc. having a contract with Verizon/Comcast for quite a while now. The World headquarters is here and it seems when a new Cell tower is put up it is always Verizon
