Live Chat Channels & DMs
Looking to engage with the Spiceworks Community audience with laid-back networking and relationship-building fun?
As an upgraded Brand Representative, you have the ability to engage further with the Chat Channels and DM (Direct Message) options on your Navigation Menu on the side panel:

Chat Channel
To Browse the different channels, hover over the Channels option and click on the Pencil icon:

There, you’ll find the “General” Chat:

There, you’ll find active Community members engaging in fun and interactive conversations! Make sure to abide by our Community Guidelines, and remember to keep it light and informal with your conversations.
Note: Conversations within Chat Channels will expire after 90 days
Direct Messages (DM)
Different from a Private Message, if you want to have a direct message conversation through Live Chat with one or multiple specific accounts, you may create a Direct Message (DM) - Select the ‘+’ icon to create a personal chat:

Select “New group chat”, then add any specific members you wish to add to the DM:

Important Reminders
Remember to abide by our Community Guidelines even in these Live Chat Channels and DMs!
Do not use Direct Messaging or Live Chat to “cold call” Community members.
While it may be an acceptable practice in other communities and social networks, “cold calling” or reaching out to someone unexpectedly via Private Messages is not only frowned upon but puts your brand in a negative light. IT pros value public discussions and will reach out to you or invite you to reach out to them should the need arise.
Be genuine and bring value to the conversation.
Come across as a real person, tailor your message to the conversation, and don’t immediately jump in with a blatant sales pitch or just a quick hyperlink. The General Chat Channel is not the place to talk about your product. It’s a place to engage and build up your relationships with the audience in informal ways - IT pros will appreciate the effort to connect with them on a 1:1 basis!
