Hey,

i have been using the bulk import for alot of devices over the past 4 years. But in the current version i can`t get it to work.

If i import my csv with 36 displays it will only create the last device of the file. Eventhough the script says imported for all 36 devices. It is pretty much the same file that imported fine a couple of month ago with the only different serialnumbers.

Has anyone tested the bulk_import in the current version?

I can’t help but feel like there is something going on with that tool. I’ve heard a few reports of similar things going on, but whenever I try running it on my system here, it works perfectly fine. I’m going to send you an email to get a copy of that CSV you’re using. I’ll see if I can reproduce it on my end.

Sure, i have a couple of custom fields, etc. in it though. I`ll send it to you tommorow when i am back at work.

No worries. I’ll re-create the custom attributes in my install so we’re working with the same stuff. Send that over whenever you get a chance - no rush!

It looks like this issue has already been addressed, but we just haven’t published any documentation on its use yet. Take a look at the conversation here and let me know if you can get the bulk_edit_attributes script working to update those devices:

Hey Peter,

i tried the bulk_edit script Francis send me, but it does only allow to edit attributes but not to import new devices. Any idea how we can get this resolved?

Oliver,

If you are trying to import new devices, for the first time, you’ll need to use the steps on the following page:

Once they are imported, you should be able to use Francis’ more recent script to update those devices with new data:

Hi Peter,

i can`t get the csv file to import. Eventhough i did it with 100. of devices in the past with older versions of spiceworks. My english is to bad to explain it today. I will try again with a clear head tommorow.

I got it working.

I have quiet a few of those Displays all imported via csv with the same name. When i need one i always search for our Asset-Tag or Location never name. To proof that this worked before, see the screenshot:

With Version 6.2 i could without any Problem import as many devices as i wanted with the same name. In the current version this seems not to work anymore. At least this was the only change i did to the csv you send me. I changed the csv File and gave all Displays a unique Name and then the file was imported without any problems.

Peter can you confirm that devices have to have a unique name when importing?

Nice, I’m glad to hear you got it working!

I can’t confirm that, since I never tried to run this script on a pre-7.x version of Spiceworks. Let me reach out to someone who can confirm that and get back to you. Hang tight!

Alright so as I figured, the serial number is going to be the unique identifier for these devices. You can edit the name to be whatever you want, including the same name.

Yes thats what i noticed, after the import i can rename my “Display 1,2,3” all to “Display”. But at the time of the import the Name seems to be forced to be unique in the database.
