Any captive portal experts out there?

Customer wants to set up an email address harvest from the portal login onto their Klavio CRM system. The kit on site is a Draytek 2865 with 2 x Ubiquiti AP’s. There are 2 Wi-Fi networks to be used Guest & Meeting room both of which are on VLAN’s and different IP ranges. First attempt at getting the portal designed and visible went fine, getting client devices to connect - nightmare!.

Am guessing that the portal controller (Unifi on a PC) has to be on the same IP range as the portals?

Is this one of these where its better to get the portal hosted externally?

Nope, but the portal IP and port needs to be allowed through the firewall to the clients that will use it.

So if your portal is on 10.10.10.10:3281 and your clients are on 20.20.20.x then your firewall needs to allow 20.20.20.x to see 10.10.10.10 on port 3281.

Be mindful the APs and switches they pass all need to be able to see the VLAN IDs you set.
