I want to advance in my career. I’m only IT at my company, I’m not learning anything new there, and have been trying to look for new jobs since Jan.
How can I gain more experience to qualify for system admin jobs? Certification?
thanks in advance

CBT Nuggets. Great website to learn and it prepares you for any cert test you want to take.

If you haven’t learned anything, then you aren’t making changes/improvements to the environment. Find those things which are not working, and fix them
Failing that, Certify.

I agree with the CBT nuggets suggestion, awesome site, also what area of IT are interesting in, what really sparks your interest?

Well if it is slow at your job take advantage of that time and use it to study and certify.
Never stop learning! Figure out what you’re passionate about and learn everything there is to know about it. There’s a lot of areas within SysAdmin you could go… like security, virtualization, server admin, and more. We have our website broken down where you can browse our courses by System Administrator career path.
What area of IT interests you most?
