I’m 50% of the IT dept were I work and things are a bit messy but my boss and I have a solid roadmap on how we are going to get to a state of “convergence” of all things IT and we need to come up with a simple scaleable change management solution for everything: software, hardware, policies, etc.

HELP!

More details about the environment helps: Big team or small team? Distribution of systems, network, and development folks? Number of servers and data centrs, and company locations?

Initial thought is ITIL Change Management. For instance, try Google Images and “itil change management best practice process maps” for many examples.

Great book which relates to the topic and IT is—

  • Practice of System and Network Administration
    Amazon.com
  • Part 3 is “Change Processes” (bit hard to summarize many chapters in a forum post!)

If it’s really just you and one other guy, a scalable CMS is going to create more problems than it solves. For a two man team, no amount of software is going to resolve a lack of cooperation. As it’s been said, “what we have here, is a failure to communicate”.

Thanks for the information! It sounds like taking a ITIL approach would be best

Not to forget the third person, that is the person which comes after the current people.

.

ITIL is a process and a goal to strive to attain, and the skill is good one to have for the CV. Wouldn’t get too hooked on seeking to be “perfect” with it.

Just saying.
