Hi,

Is there a way to Log users off automatically once they have been disconnected in Citrix Server/Environhment for say 8 hours ?

Running Citrix 4.5 XenApp , in a VmWare environment.

Actually you can do it via GPO

Admin templates → windows components → Terminal services ->Sessions
this can be configured under User or Computer settings, so need to check both.

BTW a disconnected client doesn’t use a citrix license.

Yes its not actually a Citrix setting but a terminal server setting. You can do it as above if you want it to be a global setting or use terminal service configarator / sessions and right click ICA connection / properties. Top setting I think has override user setting, tick that and set the time you want. I do it this way as a global policy wouldnt work as some machines need to keep the user logged in due to long tasks running.

Thanks for the help , I find that users log into different sessions and it just looks messy , with a disconnected session sitting with an active session for the same user.

Also hoping that this will help the servers by releasing any unneeded system items.

If you have any other tips always happy to try make a better environment for my users.

how do your users connect, is it via the web interface?

We use Web by default , but some thin clients we use the citrix agent to simplify matters.

Make sure you school your staff on how to exit Citrix.

you know they need to exit not click the X at the top right of the application.

This is your issue, it’s a training issue.

yes that’s where I was heading but I have found a lot of applications even when you use exit don’t shut the session down. We have started training them on not to shut the browser down so when they are finished they can click the logout button.
