Hi,

I am having an issue with a couple of laptops that are locking on their own. This happens sometimes when using the track pad (updating drivers has not worked). This also happens when using smart boards or Ctouch boards.

The laptops are Hp 450 Probooks G4 & g5

Has anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

Any special functions like some lappy my users set left left right and both to lock (dun ask me how they found and modified the mouse key on touchpad programming) ?

Worse case is malware ? There was a time when the lappy locked when a few users tried to close browser…we did a scan and there was some adware etc running…

Investigate system unattended sleep timeout. Might be that. It’s Haldane to me before. Sometimes hidden setting, probably need a registry entry to become visible.

Odd… This may be related. I have a user that reported this yesterday. But he is using a desktop running Windows 10.

It normally locks when touching the board, i have never seen it happen before!

I have seen this before with users wearing watch straps with magnetic holders.

(These milanese type’s are the worst: https://www.miniinthebox.com/en/p/luxury-milanese-loop-strap-for-apple-watch-42-38mm-watchband-assorted-colors_p4988317.html?currency=GBP&litb_from=paid_adwords_shopping&sku=1_47|1019_24449&country_code=gb&utm_source=google_shopping&utm_medium=cpc&adword_mt=&adword_ct=202570541203&adword_kw=&adword_pos=1o2&adword_pl=&adword_net=g&adword_tar=&adw_src_id=92424158091_867011472_41280582942_pla-330754162737&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIw8v1xYG65AIVRrDtCh0U4gjgEAQYAiABEgKdoPD_BwE )

The magnets seem to trigger the screen closed signal for a laptop, and lock the screen.

I might be wrong, but worth checking if you’ve tried other things…

Software and drivers for HP ProBook 450 G4 Notebook PC

Software and drivers for HP ProBook 450 G5 Notebook PC

What kind of cables interconnect notebooks and smart boards?
What is the length of these cables?

What is exact version of Windows on notebooks?

Do you have discrete graphics card in your notebooks?

Is computer freeze happening also when computer is not connected to the smart board?
Is computer freeze happening also when computer is idle?
Have you scanned system for viruses and malware?

Have you updated drivers and firmware on both computers and smart boards?

● Delete content of all *\Tmp and *\Temp folders and web browser caches.

● Start command prompt as admin and run these commands:
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

● Disable Windows Update via peer-to-peer network

● Disable/uncheck in Windows “Turn on fast startup (recommended)”
You can do it via Control Panel, registry or GPO.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Power]
“HiberbootEnabled”=dword:00000000

● I would recommend to run these cleaning utilities repeatedly as admin.

@kierankitchener

Just going to toss it out there as I had a weird problem that was tricky to figure out. Ended up being bad RAM, and would just cause the machine to lock up randomly when performing day to day task. Again, not exactly the same issue, but would ran a hardware diag test that is in the BIOS. Windows 10 also has a RAM test as well, but the BIOS option has some more options to it. Another option would to be trying ripout/uninstall any of the touchpad software and just let Windows find a generic driver for the touchpad. I have had odd problems before where the software (not the driver itself) was causing some problems.
