Hi All,
I manage a network with over 150 users in a very dynamic, web oriented environment so endpoint security is a big deal. I would hate to have a worm/Trojan propagate my network and bring business to a crawl.
As it stands, I currently have the latest version of Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business Advanced, which has the Security Center Version 10.1.249 and the Endpoint Version 10.2.1.23. Let me tell you, this thing is a pain in the butt !! I have random errors when updating and have to constantly watch the security center to make sure things are running right. For the most part I can deal with the small database update errors and such but what I really killing me is how its slowing down my computers !! Funny thing is I don’t know what the heck is causing this nor does Kaspersky. I go to check the task manager but everything seems fine, no excessive RAM usage or excessive processor load. I cant open web browsers, files take a long time opening and when trying to run TCPView to see if what my ports are doing, I get nothing !
Does anyone out there use this new version and if so are you guys experience random slowdowns of your computers ? When I mean slow I mean my PC crawls and I have 16GB of DDR3 RAM and the 3rd Gen I7. The only way to revive the pc is to reboot it and everything is fine, up until the next slowdown.
My renewal is coming up in February and I think im going to dump this software and look for something that functions better. Do you guys have any recommendations as to what’s better than Kaspersky ? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated !!

Sophos is a very powerful, easy to manage and low system impact solution.
The web protection is fantastic and very effective for protecting your noble users

+1 for sophos, works great and is light on the PC resources

Just installed WebRoot via GP on 150 machines.
Its very light and is centrally managed in the cloud.
I’m impressed with it so far.

We just took part in a Panda Security demo/ web conference, and I really like the looks of their security products.
We use Kaspersky at the moment, but are not really happy with their offerings.
Having said that, Kaspersky did win the Gartner Magic Quadrant “thingy” again for the third time in a row.
For what it’s worth. http://www.gartner.com/technology/reprints.do?id=1-1PJIOBM&ct=140114&st=sb
ESET Endpoint Antivirus is rawk solid.

I work in a corporate environment and since they have listened to me and licensed MS Security Center with Forefront they have had no uncontrollable outbreaks. So far all user infections have been stopped at the workstation level and pre-existing infections on the servers have been completely removed without extreme measures. Once you get passed the crazy system center instalI it’s all easy to manage. I know antiviral effectiveness is always changing but as far as I’m concerned this has been king of the hill for over a year now. Good luck.

we’re using ESET and its Remote Administrator (centralised server)
when I joined massive issues with it not being configured properly, it wasn’t scanning, wasn’t dealing with any real-time issues and allowing all sorts of cr*p in and out.
Once I took the time to read the how-to guides and get the system properly configured, it works really well. It’s stopping a lot (we have users who still don’t understand not to click the link in the dodgy emails…) and reports/dashboard provide a good overview.
In my last employment I used to use Sophos for AV and AS, which was easy to use and centrally manage. After a takeover we used the corporate McAfee system for AV and AS, it wasn’t as easy to administer as Sophos but did the job it was there to do.

We use Trend Micro Worry-Free Business Security along with Malwarebytes Corporate, along with content filtering. Been running like this for a long time, zero infections, zero problems.

Another vote for Vipre. We purchased through GFI and could not be happier. We replaced TrendMicro (which missed everything) and Sophos for the Macs. I have been thoroughly impressed with Vipre and have not been happier. I would highly recommend at least trialing it so you can see it.
Good Luck!

Sophos is the way to go. There is no OS they don’t support – meaning Win, Mac, Lin, real UNIX, and I think they still even have somthing for OS/2 and VMS.
The Endpoint manager is really great.

Hey VickA
If you’re curious about any Symantec security solutions, drop me a DM. I’ll connect you with one of our Green Guys to talk about the 1s & 0s of it all.

Our company have had Kaspersky for over 3 years. Initially it was pretty good but in the new versions it has really started to go downhilll in my opinion. We were just constantly firefighting with it. Machines not updating, automatic updates not working. Support was shocking when we could even obtain it.
As a consequence, we have just finished moving to ESET and Remote Administrator. What a difference! Its refreshing that to see a product just “works”. Once its all setup, there is very little to do in the way of ongoing maintence, as long as you put some thought into what policies you will apply where. I have setup notifications to our Service Desk on any machines that may have any threats and Jobs a good one!
One less headache for me as the IT admin, let me tell you.

Like Brendan8906 said ESET is excellent and I been using it for nearly 5 years for over 50 PC’s with no issues what so ever. The remote admin console is great and works well also.
If you want something at the router level Fortinet makes great UTM routers.
I’m a fan of Webroot SecureAnywhere myself. Very lightweight client, centrally cloud managed, and very easy to deploy via Group Policy.
Webroot has a free trial if you want to kick the tires. Download a Free Trial for Endpoint Protection Software | Webroot

I’ve used Sophos in the past, and I was fairly happy with it. Has an easy management console, lets you monitor devices on and off the network (as long as they have an internet connection and your management server has an external facing port), and it’s super simple to install and deploy (I was working in a department of 350 users and 450 systems and deployment was done overnight).
The only downside is, we had several machines that got infected while having the Sophos client installed. At the time, AVG, MSE, and Clam AV all detected the virus, but Sophos didn’t. I know MSE has gone downhill since then, and suspect, Sophos has gotten better (I know they recently purchased Astaro and now brand it as Sophos UTM).
This organization I’m about to install Vipre since it’s lightweight and has such phenomenal reviews.

This is all great feedback, thank you all very much !
Im just so fed up with the functionality of Kaspersky, sure it may have the best detection rates or whatever, but the thing just causes so many problems for me like database update errors, scan error and worst of all, the slowdown. Imagine having to answer calls all day about users complaining that their internet or pc is crawling ! Its just gotten to a point where i cant deal with it anymore, i know what the issue is and yet Kaspersky keeps on telling me to run GSI, remove and re-install over and over.
I feel like their software has so many issues that they just cannot keep up with all the support requests !
