Howdy Everyone,
Samsung makes a device called the Galaxy Book 12 and they seemed to have put that name to more than 1 device. Currently I am focused on SM-W727VZKBVZW (Manuals & Software | Official Samsung Support US). I have tried reaching out to Samsung Support but it has honestly been a more pleasant experience doing a root canal.

The unit I have is the 4GB/128GB version that came with Windows 10 Home. Honestly, it has been a good girl and now that it is heading to retirement, I have been wondering about a few things.
(1) Can the memory be upgraded? People solder/de-solder chips every day.
(2) I have heard that they also have the 8GB/256GB version?
(3) If that is true can somebody share the Model Name/Number for that version?
(4) Has anyone ever put Linux on this kind of device?

Looking forward to some feedback on the above.

It’s soldered, if you’re willing to take the risks, go ahead, but it’s probably not worth the hassle.

Ubuntu has been installed on this device, but there are some known issues getting the sound and Wi-Fi to work properly.

Thanks very much for the response.

I suspect getting the memory might prove more of a hassle than the soldering/de-soldering.

Thanks for the link to the other model. Given that is true, I would not be surprised to find they also do units with higher memory and storage capacity. If only Samsung Support were not so difficult to deal with I would take the time to ask them.

The Linux option is really interesting to me as it can present a case for another life for the device I have while I move forward to another.

Generally, I have found this unit I have to be very valuable in the field. It has only started to struggle due the increased bloat in some of the software that I use.

Thanks again & I would welcome any additional information I can get.

Not for this model.

Other people have spent countless time trying to get Ubuntu to work with varying degrees of difficulty and while I dislike throwing things away that have usable components, this device is just shy of being a recommended spec for Windows 11 (8th gen and above), so I’d just use it as is until you can’t or sell it before it loses any value it has.

Thanks for the feedback Rod. I have so far gotten my moneys worth given how easy it is to manage on the road. Also, it is already showing its weakness in terms of performance however I don’t bother to ask much of it anymore. The other version (8GB/256GB) is what I am looking at as the way forward for Windows 11, of if I can get the same device with even more memory & storage.

So far been searching for the 8GB/256GB but if anybody knows of the same unit with more memory & storage I would welcome a link or model number.

As far as I know there are no other models that support more.

As for storage, you could use an online drive (OneDrive, Google Drive etc) or USB HDD/SSD.
