Howdy folks!

Just in case you’ve managed to miss it, the Daily Challenge is back! We’ve already had over 2000 of you participate in September! If you haven’t taken yours yet today, make sure you’re logged in and head over there now!

We don’t quite have official leaderboards yet, but someone kindly shared some of the stats for September with me, so I wanted to share some of the interesting bits with all of you!

The Elite

Before we get into it, I wanted to say a big congratulations to @bob2213, @scub, and @simonsheard4498 who not only answered all 21 questions in September, but also got them all right!

It’s all the more impressive to me, as I give the questions to :sw_profcapsaicin: @Professor-Capsaicin-Spiceworks myself and I didn’t even do that… I somehow managed to miss a day and only had 20/20. :joy:

Top 25 Leaderboard

Ok, I lied, it’s more than 25, because there was a 9-way tie for 25th place!

On to the fun stats:

Everyone

  • 2078 unique accounts answered at least 1 question, earning themselves the September participation badge
    image

  • 913 correctly answered all of the questions they took!

  • 23 people took all 21 questions in September and earned the September Daily Challenge Perfection badge
    image

  • With a nice round 10400 total answers submitted, around 72% of those were correct answers! The average percent correct per individual skews slightly lower at 67%.
I won’t jump to any conclusions, but it seems the stats show that repeat takers of the Daily Challenge are more likely to be correct!

  • 427 people must be playing “Spot the Bacon” a bit too hard, as they had 0% correct in September. Don’t fret if you’re still learning, though, and check out those “further reading” links on the questions to level up your knowledge!

Five+ (Folks with at least 5 questions answered)

  • Of people who took more than 5 questions (which includes 627 accounts,) 82 got 100% correct.

  • The total number of answers for the 5+ folks was 8311, with 6145 of those being correct, putting the 5+'ers above the average at 74% correct

Newbies (Account created in 2024)

  • 369 accounts created in 2024 took at least 1 Daily Challenge question, but only 80 of those took more than 1 question
  • These accounts answered 807 questions, with 451 of those being correct answers

We’re always happy to see new folks here! If you’re here to learn, you’re in the right place! Don’t be afraid to ask questions!

Spiceworks Veterans (Accounts created before 2020)

  • I’m somewhat glad to see that 1278 of participants are folks here for the long haul! That’s around 60% of participants that have been members for 5 years or more!
  • This group answered 7467 total questions with 5668 of those being correct answers. That’s just under 76% correct!
  • This group absolutely dominates the top 25 and beyond with only 2 accounts in the top 10 being created after 2013. FIVE of the top ten spots are from folks who’ve been here since before 2010

Wait, Geography? I thought this was tech Trivia?!

We’ve had participants from 90 different countries! Special shoutout to the 13 of you from the country “(blank)” I hear the local cuisine there is amazing! :joy:

What else do you want to see?

Let me know what other things you want to see stats on! I might not have stats on everything at the moment, but if there’s a demand to see something, I’d be happy to ask around to see if we can make it happen!

Since we’re on the subject, if there’s something you want to see in the Daily Challenge, don’t forget to check out the Feature Requests section to make a request or spice up and comment on existing ones that you want to see!

More calls to action?

While I’m asking for stuff, we’d love to feature more community-submitted questions!

Want to have a freebee question where you know the answer? Want to stump our current top 3? Or maybe you want to throw everyone a softball and raise the average? No matter the intention, if you’ve got a good question, or even just an idea for one, please send it over!

You can submit questions as a private message to @Professor-Capsaicin-Spiceworks or to me. If you’d prefer to email in your question you can send it to community@spiceworks.com. If you email it in, make sure you either include your username, or send it from the same email that’s tied to your account so we can give you credit!

Darn. I don’t think we have a country badge for “(blank)” … might have to look into that. We shouldn’t be so judgy and biased just because they have an unusual name.

15 Spice ups

I’ve always wanted to visit (blank). I hear the weather is nice this time of year…

14 Spice ups

Interesting…I was thinking I’d only missed one day for the Labor Day holiday. I’m looking forward to the email reminder being implemented so I don’t forget!

The list is sorted by correct answers. You did indeed take 20 questions, just didn’t quite make the top 25. I took all 21, but I didn’t make the list either. Probably too many bacon answers.

11 Spice ups

Aha!! Thanks, I was not taking into account the fact that it was sorted by correct answers and not number of answers.

I heard the scenery in (blank) was something special… here is a pic… of (blank)

It’s a bit bright there for me… Might give me a headache if I spent too long enjoying that view.

13 Spice ups

I thought that’s what “dark mode” is for…

There is no such thing as too many bacon answers.

Bacon, even the mere thought thereof, is its own reward. :bacon:

Aww, I hate that I missed answering one day, but that makes me part of a nine-way tie for 4th place (tied with @tommyclark who I met at a pre-Covid SpiceCorps meeting).

We need stats for number of times BaCoN answers were chosen!

Maybe the folks who use “blank” live in Lviv. Its national affiliation seems to change hands frequently:
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The old town of Lviv

Lviv (Ukrainian: Львів, L’viv; Polish: Lwów; ‹See Tfd›German: Lemberg or Leopoldstadt [citation needed] (archaic); Yiddish: לעמבערג; ‹See Tfd›Russian: Львов, romanized: Lvov, see also other names) is an administrative center in western Ukraine with more than a millennium of history as a settlement, and over seven centuries as a city. Prior to the creation of the modern state of Ukraine, Lviv had been part of numerous states and empires, including, under the name Lwów, Poland and later the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth; under the name Lemberg,[1] the Austrian and later Austro-Hungarian Empires; the short-lived West Ukrainian People’s Republic after World War I; Poland again; and the Soviet Union.

We may be able to arrange that.

7 Spice ups

Holy chickens, batman! That’s a lot of data.
And I love it!

Just want to spice this up so much! This is what Spiceworks is all about.

7 Spice ups

Such a beautiful image of the (blank)ian white bears walking in the (blank)ian snowfields while the (blank)ian white snowflowers are beginning to bloom.

7 Spice ups

OH BOY did she arrange that! Keep a lookout… Assuming I have time to put everything together today, there should be a post about this! :bacon: (And if I don’t, I’ll have it out early next week!)

8 Spice ups

Cool! Now I’ll have to weigh my love for a perfect record vs my desire to pick BaCoN and get another stat. LOL I’m gonna have to submit more questions where BaCoN is the right answer (well, it’s ALWAYS the right answer, but still)!

7 Spice ups

The more (good) questions folks submit, the more time I have to work on fun stuff like these stats!

What is a five letter word that starts with B , ends with N, has a C in the middle, and contains two vowels that are not I O U or W?
