Hi All,
Just got a problem with my external hard drive I have dropped it and now can’t see any files in it shows drive normally and also shows 171GB free of 465GB but i cant see any file in it.
Is there any chance i can recover that data, or any software which can recover it please let me know.
Thanks
Kash

3 Spice ups

I would try Download Recuva | Recover deleted files, free! for a start.

Thanks @ Dogs…is there any trail version of it?

Recuva is free

Well the no support version is

Did you drop it whilst it was powered on?

Have you tried rebooting the computer and then reconnect the drive?

Yeah I have tried that, I can copy data on it but can’t retrieve old data which is already on it.

As andy said - recova is free if you take the no support option. But then you have spiceworks for support

Give it a shot and see what it tells you about the drive.

Thanks all…recuva Installed and recovering, it will take about 4 hrs to recover data

Another thing Recuva is showing file in three colors yellow, red and green, If I am not wrong it will only recover the green ones? or it will recover all?

Thanks I’ll have a drive at home that I will have to try Recuva on.

Kash - If i remember right (and it has been awhile since i used recova) the green / yellow / red refrences how complete the file is.

Green means it is complete and should be usable once recovered.

Yellow means its mostly there and you may be able to use the file once recovered if like an excel file, excel can recover a courrupted file etc etc.

Red means Recova can see some iformation about the file - give you some idea about it but it is not complete a doubtfull you will be able to use the files once recovered.

The above is just my take on it.

@Dogs…I have figured it out, you are right green are the files which are excellent to recover yellow are recoverable but not 100% and red are not at all recoverable recuva can see the file but can’t recover them.

Anyways Thanks! for all your help.
