Hi Guys

Currently attempting to install a 2.5 inch SSD into a Dell Precision Tower 5810. I have the mounting kit for it but cannot find anywhere a caddy to get the 2.5 to sit securely in the PC’s brackets by the storage controller. If anyone could find the parts for this that would be massively appreciated.

Thanks

Thank you for the tag.

@Niallfurey,

Thank you for your question.

See: http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/1056296-dell-optiplex-3-5-hard-drive-caddy

DN8MY works for most Optiplex and Precision models. Ranging from Optiplex 390 to 9020 and from Precision T1600 to T7910.

It will work for your T5810

Very much appreciated for the help Justin & Zwickasaurus. I’ll see about getting one and let you know how it goes.

Hi Justin

Sorry to be a pain again. In the link provided the caddy shown matches the 3.5 caddy that the PC already came with that isn’t compatible with the 2.5 SSD I am trying to install. When I do try to put the SSD in, the fixing points in the caddy can’t meet all the slots in the drive. This leaves the SSD lose and pivoting slightly. Would the kit, if I ordered one come with the adapter to facilitate a 2.5 into a 3.5 slot?

Hmm, thought the d/p R494D was the appropriate Dell caddy—

As an alternate, have used dual SSD Startech brackets in those blue Dell 3.5" HDD caddys successfully—

RougePacket

Saw this one and I assume it’ll do the trick. Will keep an eye out for a definitive answer before buying as Dell cases seem pretty inconsistent between different models, unlike some other manufacturers.

@Niallfurey,

My Apologies.

When you said “I have the mounting kit for it but cannot find anywhere a caddy to get the 2.5 to sit securely in the PC’s brackets by the storage controller.” I assumed you had the 2.5 inch portion of the equation.

After some searching I found the 2.5 inch adapter for the T5810. It’s 1MF7D. Very similar to what our kind friend RougePacket found for R494D.

1MF7D goes inside of DN8MY.

1MF7D pulled out of system with drive inserted:

No problem at all Justin. Thanks for the help. Just one last question. I assume this will match up and work fine with the 5810? Apologies for the confusion. I have a basic 2.5 mounting kit but it just wouldn’t play ball with the Dell racks and brackets. I’ll look into this one and see about getting an order sorted. Much appreciated for the assistance.

Hi Niallfurey ,

I just edited the post to include T5810 as compatible with 1MF7D and DN8MY. I wrote T7910 in there by mistake although the parts are compatible with both models.
