Hi guys,

I am trying to move my DHCP from a server 2003 to a new 2012r2 server I did a successful export and import to the new server. I authorized the new server and deauthorized the old one. I run into “An error occurred while renewing interface vEthernet (internalvm) : unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out.” error when I try to renew an IP address on any workstation though. Any help would be useful

Thanks!

Has the scope been activated?

Does the new server use the old server for DHCP under ipv4 network config? I have forgotten that before!

Anything on event viewer?

Are your clients pointing to the new server when you type ipconfig /all?

yes, the scope is active

no, they are pointing to the old DHCP even though it is deauthorized

Have they renewed an ip?

Try an ipconfig /release then an ipconfig /renew

Have you removed the old server from the list of authorized servers? I don’t think it gets removed from the list just because you deauthorize.

Looks like it was fine, I forgot to expire all the leases. So a renew didn’t work. Had to release and renew, thanks Gary D Williams!
