Hi Everybody

does anyone out there know who to do the following

We have a DHCP Scope 192.168.0.1 255.255.255.0 254 clients can connect

need to change it to the following 192.168.0.1 255.255.254.0 512 clients can connect

Windows 2003 server running DHCP

We have a lot of reservations and looking for a way to make this change without having to delete the scope and rebuilding it anyone out there know of a way.

Thanks in advance

I’m no expert (nor have I ever tried this) but I’m pretty sure you have no other option and will have to delete and re-create the scope.

The subnet mask isn’t editable.

EDIT: You might want to checkout the Superscope capability if you just need more IP Addresses.

If you have a layer 3 switch just make another vlan and create a scope for it.

Delete the scope and recreate.

Even doing the superscope you need to change the subnet mask I believe.

Superscopes | Microsoft Learn

You don’t need to delete the actual scope if you go with the superscope option, but you will need to add a router and the subnet to your network, unless you will manage the new addresses using a VLAN.

Hey, superscope is a killer if you ont have the router the computers on the other network will not talk each other hey are two options in my opinion you can create a new dhcp server on another server with the new scope and demote the other one or just delete the scope you have and recreate the one you want but remember o change the subnet mask for the servers.

Resubnetting is a pain, but here’s how you do it:

That re-iterates most of what you heard in here, but with some instructions and links that will help you out.

Have fun!
