DNS Request timed out

When I do an nslookup it gives me my dns name and ip but when I type www.google.com it says:

DNS request timed out.
timeout was 2 seconds.
DNS request timed out.
timeout was 2 seconds.

When I change the DNS to googles it works fine.

Does anyone know why this is happening?

hello,

It seems that your DNS server is not doing properly the recursion. Does it work for other domains or you have this only for www.google.com ?

Because you haven’t said, I’ll guess you have a windows server set up as a dns server. And a client device pointing to it for dns. Guessing this dns server doesn’t have any dns forwarders set up or there’s a firewall blocking dns for that server or that server doesn’t get internet access. Am I close?

I just had to set the google DNS as the forwarder and it is now working.
