I don’t cook much. I am looking at maybe subscribing to a delivery service to get pre-cooked meals. I have looked at a few, Factor, Blue Apron, Home Chef etc. Not looking to build a meal but a meal that I can just heat up.

waifu used to hit up Factor for a couple months. It was good, but she would end up not eating some of them and tossing them out after expiration. We did the math and it was much cheaper for me to meal prep for her on a Sunday afternoon. Great time to chill out with her, too. She doesn’t cook at all and would just help me with the prep.

Nope- totally enjoy cooking… also, as an escape from the day job.

Making your own creations is healthier and less expensive.

I did Factor for a while. It was good for a few months, but it wasn’t long before I started to loathe the food. Plus the amount of trash it generates was kinda staggering.

We generate so much trash anyway :joy:. I was hopeful these would be a bit healthier than what I normally eat.

I wasn’t one for cooking, but after little one was diagnosed as coeliac i kind of picked up on how to make things. Pancakes, waffles, cupcakes, etc. Kind of got me in to cooking and as @mountainbiker has said, lot healthier and saves money. Gluten Free stuff is mega expensive and filled with twice as much crap.

It was healthier, but the portions were small and everything was incredibly salty, which surely isn’t healthy in the long run.

That is the problem with those foods. Yes, the portions are smaller. However, the added preservatives cancel out a lot of the benefits.

Stick to bacon and all will be well

And it’s gluten free, dairy free, and nut free!

I order out from time to time thru Uber Eats and the place I now order from the containers they use can be reused. So I clean them out and use them to put leftovers in. They are also microwave safe

I did Hello Fresh and Blue Apron for a time when I was having to commute 45ish minutes one way for work. It made it a lot easier for me to get a work out in on my way home from work since I wasn’t having to stop at the grocery store as much. I don’t know if it’s worth it now that I live 5 minutes from work because they are just so overpriced compared to the grocery store.

What my fiancée and I do now is just make a big crockpot meal (usually a soup or some kind of pulled chicken) on the weekend and use those leftovers to meal prep lunches (and one or two dinners) for the rest of the week. This past weekend she did Baked Potato soup and it’s honestly the best soup I’ve ever had in my life. Just chop the veggies, toss it all in a crockpot with some broth, and leave it alone for 7ish hrs.

It really is with all the insulated bags and the ice packs they go through :frowning: We kept a few to use for things like camping but a person can only re-use so many. They really need a return program so they can re-use those things.

We used “Hello Fresh” I think it was for a while. the food was good and its a good way to get new ideas or some variety. but it is really expensive. They use some really imaginary math when they do their marketing claiming to be cheaper than groceries.

Its the subscription model that ultimately turned us off. If there was a service where I could just order (a week or two in advance of course) a meal or two on demand instead of subscription based we would be much more likely to use it again. but as it stands we haven’t used any of these services for years now.

ZZ Top has your answer:

Buy an instant pot, what a time saver. Throw the ingredients in before you leave for work and set the timer.

If you go the frozen route, subscribe to The Wolf Pit and save yourself a lot of bad dinner dates.

I heard these are popular at the Train Station.

I did Hello Fresh for a few months, but finally cancelled it.

First problem was that I was constantly running into scheduling issues because I spend half the week at my Mexico apartment, and they had trouble consistently getting me my deliveries on days that were convenient for me where it wouldn’t sit on the front porch all weekend while I was gone.

Second problem was that I had more than one (three in total) incidents where ingredients were either missing or in unacceptable condition. Customer service told me they were having issues with their local suppliers/delivery – since they outsource that stuff regionally – but after the third time they couldn’t get it right, I just couldn’t justify it any more.

Yeah, I know that’s not pre-cooked but rather pre-preppped, but just giving another data point.
